So...um... is the visa lottery gone or is Trump just trying to get rid of it?
I just saw it on the FOX 5 news at 9… Has he officially gotten rid of it???

I don’t think he has the power to do without Congressional authorization. I believe he wants to mimic Canadas merit based immigration.
And tell me, what do you think about this?
@Friendofeveryone its interesting. Just like a current events class in high school social studies. A merit based immigration system would benifit me if I ever wanted to move to the USA from Canada.
Like @RedDeerGuy1 said, Congress would have to vote to get rid of it.
To be able to enter the lottery, applicants go through the same vetting process as other immigrants, and additionally must either be a high school graduate or have at least two years of work experience at a job that requires at least two years of training. The only countries included are those that have only a small number of immigrants living in the U.S. Countries with larger immigrant populations in the U.S. have the advantage of being able to immigrate through family ties. The program seems reasonable to me.
It’s just Trump pandering to his low-information base. He’s not actually going to do anything. As per usual with Trump – a lot of talk, little action.
Trump’s visa lottery tweet was a typical knee jerk reaction. From learning of the programme’s existence to wanting to scrap it was for Trump the work of an instant. Why bother to find out what the programme is or why it was created? He knows what will appeal to his base. Meanwhile the lottery system continues. As Congress approved it Congress must approve any changes to it.
