How to know my skin type?

I was going to use the tissue and tape test but my current cleanser is far too harsh and what confuses me was that I was told that I needed to use the right cleanser for my skin type but obviously I don’t know my skin type.

If you live near a mall where they have make up stores such as Sephora or Macys you can go in there and they will determine your skin type for free. Of course, they will try to get you to buy their make up, but be strong. Say no.

Can I do the tissue and scotch tape skin test after washing my face with only water, or do I need a cleanser for this test? Is micellar water a good cleanser for these skin type tests?
