Do you know some American authors who write horror stories?
And who have written many books. One who sells books even today.

Apart from Stephen King, of course.
H.P. Lovecraft books sell every day.
Clive Barker is Liverpudlian, but lives in Beverly Hills, California.
Anne Rice, obviously.
Peter Straub.
Owen King bears mentioning, as well.
Edgar Allen Poe is still in print and selling.
Richard Matheson, especially for “I am Legend”.
^ That book was frighteningly awful, but hardly a horror story.
it has vampires and werewolves in it.
Brett Ellis Easton, or whatever his name is…., he wrote a pretty gory story, didn’t he?
Scott Sigler. He’s fantastic.
Dean Koontz has dabbled in horror fiction, and some claim that most of his work is horrible fiction. ;-)
Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Robert McCammon’s earlier stuff, Peter Straub and John Saul, Anne Rice…there are a few others like Poe or Lovecraft, but they are no longer writing for obvious reasons. I guess if you were younger R.L. Stein would fit the list.
Stephen King, R.L Stine, J. K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer. All of those are my fave.
As far as I’m concerned H.P. Lovecraft is practically untouchable, even with his xenophobia and racism. Though if by “sells books even today” you mean are they still writing and publishing then Lovecraft hasn’t really done anything in awhile.
