What are some unusual punishments that your school metted out ?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) November 25th, 2017

I was placed in a dark boiler room and let out when school ended in grade 5. I liked it and got the habit of staying in the dark. Even with bathing.

My kindergarten teacher used to shove me into the toilet after I failed to sing a song she taught. Another one attempted to cut my hand off when I misbehaved, leaving a mark that is still visible today.

If they were around today they would face some nasty punishment for child abuse, but back then people just didn’t care. If I had spoken out people would have thought it was my fault for misbehaving and the teachers were right.

My sixth grade teacher would have us copy a page out of the dictionary, instead of writing something one hundred times.

In grade 7 I had to print out 10 X 10 lines plus ten every time I disrupted class. When I got to 30 times I dropped out of the honors class and went into the remedial class. For a bit I stood up for my self saying that the punishment was wasting my perilous time.

Holy gods, where did you people go to school ???!!!
I think the worst we had was going to the principals office for a stern talk.

@anniereborn I was in a Canadian school in the 80’s. We aren’t all nice and pleasant.

I had a teach who would make us stand face touching a wall with eyes wide open.It was kind of hallucinatory. Afterwards at recess we would talk about the things we saw.

When I was in k my teacher sat me on the window sill for misbehaving. It was a high window, with the broad sill meant for flower pots.
Satisfied she had frightened me, she asked how I liked being there. I beamed, and exclaimed I couldn’t believe how far I could see.
Two of our boys once got the wood paddle. Our principal was so mad she broke it over one’s butt.

I must have had @zenvelo‘s teacher. Fifth grade – act out in class and she’d have you copy the definition of “work” from the Big Dictionary. I saw it assigned four times. The kid never finished before school let out.

Jesus fuck….

The worst punishment I ever got was detention.

Frank honesty: from reading your posts over the years I can only conclude that, growing up, every adult in your life failed you.

When I was in primary school one of our teachers would go round the class desk by desk checking on our work. She carried a thick leather strap with her folded in two and if she wasn’t happy with the work she would strike the back of our hands with it. This was quite painful and created a regime of terror. She was actually quite a pleasant old lady and invited some of her class to tea at her house one afternoon. She had nice wallpaper on the walls, a white tablecloth and a cake stand but I imagined that behind the door that remained closed she had a fully kitted out torture chamber.

I got in trouble once in the third for helping a girl I fancied cheat on a math test. Which was fantastic since my punishment was spending recess in the library. The joke is on them. I wish I could have spent every recess in the library.

I’m a bit shocked that teachers would ever touch anyone. My mom never spanked me. If a teacher touched me lawyers would have rolled into the school so fast.
