How much, on average, do you spend on your kids and / or grandkids at Christmas?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) November 28th, 2017

I just saw a storm trooper mask on Ebay. I thought my boy twin would love that!...BUT NOT FOR $140!!

I typically spend less than $20 on the little kids. A little more than that on my adult kids.

I SO badly want to get the old book Look Our For Pirates for my 6 year old grand daughter but damn! They want $24 bucks for it on Amazon! And that’s the cheapest!

You can have +-5% margin on your 20$ limit and get that book.
..) Adjust with adult kids..I don’t think they would complain!!

@Dutchess_III What about buying books second-hand. One Christmas I gave everyone second-hand books. In NZ we have Trade Me which I guess must be the equivalent of your eBay. Anyway I often buy books there and they are so much cheaper than new and more often than not, in as new condition. Personally I have no problem receiving second-hand books, it’s hard to imagine your granddaughter having a problem either. Anyway, everyone is different, it’s just my thoughts.

I only have one kid, and he’s pretty awesome, so at holiday time we spoil him.

We didn’t go all-out when he was little (when he wouldn’t remember anyway), but now that he’s old enough to appreciate it, we try to make it special. I don’t have the cash to do thousands of dollars, but we do get him one big gift a year.

One year was a video game system (so a few hundred dollars once the system and a few games were bought). This year he’s getting a drum kit. Don’t tell him.

We only buy for my daughter (15) and our two nieces (6 & 8).

Like @Muad_Dib, we spoil our daughter, usually spending a few hundreds. Less than a thousand.

The nieces about $50 each.

@Adagio $24 IS for second hand!. I will keep looking. Maybe I’ll get lucky before next Christmas and find one at Goodwill or auction or a garage sale.
Apparently I have great taste in books. Check out those prices. I checked that book out almost every week when I was in elementary school. Wish I’d had the foresight to “lose” it, then put it in a dang bank vault!

Including Rick’s kids I have 13 grandkids and 6 adult kids (daughters and husbands) to buy for. No splurging here. Unless I start a Go Fund Me!

For my son and his family I’m going to get everyone in the family crazy, fuzzy slippers! I gave one of the girls some slippers for her birthday in November, and all the other kids went wild for them! I’ll have to get her a bathrobe or something.

IAN!!! YOU’RE GETTING A DRUM SET FOR CHRISTMAS!! YOUR PARENTS ARE OUT OF THEIR MINDS! Or will be after about a week of listening to you bang on the drums! Wish I could be there to see it. ;)

Haha – I need to rent warehouse space for my soap business anyway, so the drums will live there. He’ll be able to bang away while I’m working, and when I’m not working the hubs’ band will be able to use it for practice (and, my ears hope) actual drum lessons.

I had a drummer up the street who played for hours every single day! This went on all through the summer. He never got any better, either. :(

Too much. And 3 days after Christmas they lose interest in all that crap anyway.

Which is why I have always been more of an Easter fan. Quieter holiday, better weather, and all I have to do is buy baskets and fill them with chocolate bunnies and jelley beans and I’m good to go.

I like Thanksgiving the best. I think we started a new tradition this year…camping out at a park just a few blocks from my son’s house.

Good idea. Then you don’t have so far to run when bigfoot shows up.
