Do the people that have been accused of sexual harassment get a pass?

I saw a news article where Matt Lauer “plans to disappear and play a lot of golf.” Won’t he, and others, get tried for these transgressions? I know a lot of the accused have lost their high paying jobs, but they have enough to live comfortably for years to come, if not for the rest of their lives.

All that I know about right now is the skanky doctor for the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for child porn and is awaiting sentencing of the sexual assault charges, It could not have happened to a more deserving guy.
It depends on the statute of limitations, active police investigations, if the victims pursue legal action or not, or if what the accused did is considered a crime under the law, or just reprehensible social behaviour. I read Mr. Lauer gave sex toys as gifts for example. Having poor taste in gifting is not a crime, being offended by a gift is not a crime either (when I receive a gift, 90% of the time I feel offended by the stuff I end up getting). So, it depends on many things. It has way too many shades, it’s not a black and white issue.
There also must be proof to press criminal charges.
Sexual harassment at work and setting a hostile work environment (such as what Matt Lauer did) are not criminal offenses, they are civil offenses. Many of these incidents are not sexual assault.
Harvey Weinstein is facing serious criminal charges, in New York, Los Angeles, and in Great Britain.
There aren’t enough jails to hold all of the transgressors, IF they could be convicted! You’re basically talking about (just about) ALL men and a fair amount of women, too. And don’t forget the LBGT community, and all of the other sexual fondlers! Best to let them admit to their foibles, suffer the embarrassment, then let them get on with their lives, and us with ours.
I think it’s a relatively small amount of people doing this and not most. Generally people are respectful. The ones doing it are just doing it a lot
Not ALL men are guilty of sexual indiscretion. The ones that are are the most “memorable.”
@kritiper, I love you man, but that comment is trying to do what has always been done for all time, just sweep it all under the carpet. No, man. It’s WRONG. And people need to understand that it really is wrong.
@Dutchess_III Then kill all of the men.
Problem solved!
Sure it’s wrong. I didn’t mean to say that all transgressors deserve all of the maximum punishment, like you seem to.
And I am not proposing to sweep it all under the rug. Draw a forgiving line somewhere between the minimum and the maximum offenders.
Or kill them all!
Why would I kill all the men? In the very post you’re referring to I said, ”Not ALL men are guilty of sexual indiscretion. The ones that are are the most “memorable.””
@Dutchess III When it comes to men, you are so naive’! Do you want to solve the problem completely or not??
”“Not ALL men are guilty of sexual indiscretion.”” In YOUR opinion, you mean.
In MY opinion, ALL men are guilty of sexual indiscretion in one way or another.
If you were to try to be so selective in what men are not guilty, you would most likely find yourself very disappointed!
As long as there are men, this problem will exist, so, again: DRAW A FORGIVING LINE!
Alright, in my experience not every male is a jerk, else I’d have been hit on by every guy in the place instead of just 2 or 3 assholes grabbing my ass, “accidentally” touching my boob as we passed, grabbing at my crotch.
None of the guys I ever “selected” to date were like that though, so I was not disappointed.
So that’s where the line can be drawn. They may still have been inconspicuous sexually molesting jerks deep down inside, but not where you could see it.
I wonder how many of the major jerkwads would have to be hoisted upon the molester gallows to adequately deplete the ranks in order to satisfy women affected. 50%? 70%? 95%? More??
Are you saying all men have a sex driver, therefore all men are sexually molesting jerks? I’m not sure where you’re coming from @kritiper. Looking or noticing, and acting on, are two completely different animals.
It’s hard to understand where I’m coming from when you are a woman. Women don’t have the same sex drive that men do. We’ve been over this before, you and I.
And, to a certain extent, society programs males to be that way. Young men go to junior high school with those little hotties, and we aren’t suppose to notice pretty sexy girls when we get older?? And clothing manufacturers make sexy clothes for those little hotties starting when they are in elementary school. How can a man/boy with raging hormones and a normal libido ignore such things?
As men, IT’S WHAT WE ARE! We think about sex ALL THE TIME! We are sexually driven animals!! Wild, untamed ANIMALS!!!
If we are not to be that way, then society, as a whole, must physically neuter us.
Or kill us all.
I’d rather be dead.
Why do women always assume that men are as passive about sex as they are?? (A rhetorical question.)
This isn’t about noticing or even feeling! this is about physically acting on those feelings in a way that is unwanted and uninvited. Why are you having such a hard time understanding the difference?
We women are very, very aware of the differences in the sex drive. We are made aware at a very young age. Much more aware of them than the men are. Many men don’t get that most of us have an aversion to dick pics and find them disgusting, because they’d just swoon over a picture of a naked women.
I understand the difference.
Can you understand that not all men act like that, and of those who do, not all commit mega offenses worthy of equal mega punishment? You’d hang all for any and all real or imagined offenses, minor or major.
Draw that line!
How many times have I said exactly that, that all men don’t act like that! Look through our discussions. Have you not heard a single thing I’ve been saying? And of course not every offense should have the same punishment and I never suggested, or even implied that they should.
I think you’re having an argument with an imaginary person in your head, man.
I don’t understand what you’re asking. You keep saying draw the line.
OK, don’t physically grab at a woman to satisfy your lust.
Don’t yell sexual comments at a woman and think that saying, “Nice tits!” should be taken as a compliment.
Be polite. Use your manners.
Treat women the way you’d want your own daughter to be treated.
Is that just too much to ask?
Draw a line between what actions you will forgive and which ones you will not on past events, and future events of this nature. Hopefully, men will toe the line from here on out. But where will society draw the line as to what might be acceptable/forgivable from here on out and what will not??? Are you capable of drawing a line for how you will remedy your feelings on the issue??
“Is that too much to ask?” No. Is it too much to ask that women don’t show too much skin, skin that gets men’s attention in ways that women would/might find objectionable? There are so many different messages being sent by women, how can any man know where any particular woman, or group of women, have drawn the line?? You expect all men to know all of these things all of the time, magically, with no clear, defined, boundaries.
Men are sexual animals. What the heck do you expect from us??? How can we possibly know which women are total prudes and which ones are not?
GEEZ!
Oh, God. Here we go.
“We demand that you dress sexy because we want you too!”
“You slut! You deserve to be molested because of how you dress!”
In MY experience it didn’t matter how I was dressed. I still got harassed. I could wear overalls and I’d still be harassed.
