When 5 is written as IIII
I had a wristwatch where IV was represented as IIII.
Both “IIII” and “IV” are used !
I saw it written that way on some tarot cards a long time ago.
IV is standard. Where have you seen IIII?
IV is old latin, later uses of church latin had done away with the subtractive anteposition, so you can find it in some churches built between this event and the decision to return to the original way of writing it.
I have seen it on some old clock faces. it seems wrong to me.
I’ve never seen the Latin IV that way.
Interesting. I never noticed if I saw it.
I have only seen 4 as IIII on dress wristwatches that have Roman numerals as hour markers. The Cartier “Tank” is one such watch.
