What are a few of your favorite things?

Asked by chyna (51601points) December 17th, 2017

This question was brought on by the holiday song “A Few of My Favorite Things.”
I love clean sheets. I love puppies and kittens.
I love the wind blowing through my hair.

What are your favorite things?

I love pancake Sunday.
I love the Simpsons.
I love going to the movies, it reminds me of when I was a teenager and I used to save my lunch money to go to the cinema.
I love new clothes, I had lot’s of hand me downs from an uncle-in-law that I never liked (and he never liked me either) until I was old enough to work and buy my own.
I love collecting junk… One day I will collect what I really like, cars….

Hanging out with my offspring, puppy scuffling, a good book on a rainy (or snowy) day, oh the list could go on and on. Thanks for asking this, @chyna, I’ll be thinking “and _that! And _that!” For the rest of the day. :-)

Ok – real things:

I love hot baths on cold nights.
I love mashed potatoes with gravy.
I love rain on the roof while I’m in bed.
I love baking cookies for the kids for the holidays and planning some surprise gifts.
I love road trips with a good friend.
I love walking by the ocean in its many moods.

“Seth Marie and Jake and Simon”

What is that? Even Google doesn’t know.

I love riding bicycles. I can feel sick, it can be cold outside, it might be raining a little, and I’ll be reluctant, thinking I’ll just drive or take the train instead. But that does not stop me because I know that about 30 seconds into the ride, I will be SO HAPPY I got on the bike.

Two kids have three names? Or is it four names? I would take you for an Oxford comma person. Or at least a comma user.

janbb's avatar

Seth Marie – one name
Jake – one name
Simon – one name

each separated by “and”

No commas needed when conjunction is used in this case.

Google thinks “Seth Marie and Jake and Simon” is Bradley Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal, Seth Rogen, and Paul Dano reading Alicia Silverstone lines from Clueless. That’s the first hit.

Clueless is based on Jane Austen’s Emma. Jane Austen’s father studied at Oxford, where he met Jane’s mother, where her father was a rector. I bet that family used commas like nobody’s business. I bet they made comma gestures at the dinner table like we make “air quotes”.

Thus they would not confuse people, making them try to figure out how three kids are called Thing One and Thing Two.

@Call_Me_Jay I understand your confusion, and will try to eschew, obfuscation, in future, Sirrah.

Seth Marie, my San Francisco granddaughter, and Jake and Simon, my grandsons who live in Paris, and are otherwise known as Thing One and Thing Two. (Not really but for purposes of this question.)

eschew, obfuscation, in future, Sirrah.

Comma overdose. I am now in a comma coma.

You are a difficult man to ac-comma-date!

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

Pas vraiment. I am more of a “comme ci comme ca” guy. Or type, if you will.

Jumping into a pool on a hot day. New socks. Going to bed with sheets just pulled off the clothesline. A hug from my father. Thundersnow. Cheese.

Girls, anything chocolate, food in general, old cars, solitude, animals. Did I mention girls??

johnpowell's avatar

@Call_Me_Jay :: There is sort of a odd combination of bikes and rain I love. When you get so wet you can get no wetter. Then you just barrel your bike through puddles because fuck it. You are already drenched.

@chyna: They’re in no particular order. I know. Shameful. Cookies should be first regardless of structure.
badcookie, badcookie, badcookie

Also, I forgot “jazz”.
