How do I decide what size hat my husband should wear?

Asked by Pandora (32398points) December 19th, 2017

He has summer hats and winter hats. And it seems manufactures do not adhere to the same size ratings in mens hats in different styles or even in the same style. I want to order fedora hats and two of them don’t have the size in it at all and one says medium. In other style he has one that says L/EX. It could be because its a summer hat it is meant to be worn looser. I don’t know. So how do I measure the hat in relation to manufacturer measuring? Do I measure the inside of the hat or around the outside?

Maybe i am old fashioned. I have the opinion that mens’ clothing ought to be chosen by the wearer-especially something so visible like a hat. Hats say so much about a person; shouldn’t he be the one to decide?

I would measure the inside circumference of all the hats and that information would probably give the hat supplier enough information as to what size he needs. Make sure the shop is prepared to exchange for a larger or smaller hat should that be necessary.

I’d say it’s best to go in with him while he tries some on to find the correct size for a particular designer/manufacturer. @elbanditoroso has a good general point – best for the wearer to select their own clothing if possible.
