For those of you who enjoy home improvement shows, or who dabble in interior design, what trends do you like, and which ones do you dislike?

Asked by Kardamom (33494points) December 27th, 2017

I enjoy watching the home improvement, and house hunting shows on HGTV. One of my relatives is a real estate agent and I’ve been to many listings with her and I really enjoy looking at homes.

There are some things that I love: shaker style cabinets, quartz counter tops, glass tile back splashes, and Matte Grey Rectangular Bathroom Floor Tiles

There are also some things that I don’t care for: anything in a hounds-tooth pattern, wall paper, Painted Kitchen Cabinets (except for white) and Waterful Edge Islands, and parquet flooring.

What are the design elements that you like, and some that you dislike? Links would be helpful.

I hate thin glass tables, chairs with thin wire legs, in general furniture that looks blocky and uncomfortable and I especially hate those horrible Barcelona chairs.

@ragingloli What kinds of designs do you like? And do you have those things in your house?

I like tiny house shows. I would like one later but built for tall people.

@RedDeerGuy1 Yes! That is a great idea. I like those tiny houses too, except for the loft bedrooms. I get claustrophobic when I can’t stand up in a room. Most of those houses are way too small.

Shiplap.

I never knew what shiplap was for my whole life.

But if putting it up gave me the most remote shot at Joanna Gaines, I would hang it the crawl space.
