How cold are you right now?

Asked by janbb (63219points) December 28th, 2017

Just got back from northern California where it was kind of chilly – in the low 50s. Here in NJ it is in the 20s right now during the day and the teens at night for the foreseeable future.

How cold – or warm – is it where you are? Any accumulation of snow?

24* F right now, low 30’s for a high, tonight low of 17* F; no accumulation of snow, we had a few flakes mixed in yesterday.

Temperatures have not been bad here in Reno. 26 degrees right now; high of 58. Tomorrow high of 60, then 58 again. I’d like to see some snow though (not that we ever get too much).

jonsblond's avatar

Yesterday morning it was -11 F with a windchill of -26 when I took my husband to work. We reached a high of 4. It’s a little warmer today at 8 and a windchill of -5. We are expecting another inch of snow today to add to the 2 inches we received on Christmas Eve.

In DC, we are in the same situation as you are, @janbb. It is darn cold. I wore a hat.coat and gloves out today.

chyna's avatar

20 degrees here. I’m real cold!

canidmajor's avatar

Cold. Cold. Cold.
But glad I’m not visiting my friend in Billings, MT!

jonsblond's avatar

Come join me New Year’s Day! Our forecast is calling for a mostly sunny day with a high of -4 F and a low of -16. Balmy!

janbb's avatar

@Aethelwine We’ll have a January birthdays penguin party!

Kardamom's avatar

Not very. It’s about 75 degrees outside, at least. I’m in Southern CA.

canidmajor's avatar

@Aethelwine, bring your crew (including dogs!) to my house! We’ll have a balmy, semitropical, 15* New Year!

SergeantQueen's avatar

9 degrees out right now.

The other day it was 1 degrees with a real feel of -28 so that’s always nice.

SergeantQueen's avatar

Plus, light snow! :)

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Never made it to 30* F.

thisismyusername's avatar

Currently 3 degrees F here in MA, and we have about 6 inches of snow.

I think I am starting to understand the “snowbird” concept.

johnpowell's avatar

It warmed up a lot here in the last few days. Now we are at a solid 50º. Proof of global warming.

But last week was below freezing, but no snow. I have not turned on my heater yet this year. I have my computer mining ETN right now and that keeps things toasty. I get about 2$/per day mining and that is just slightly more than it would cost to keep my apartment warm with a conventional heater.

San Francisco Bay Area is still cooler than we are used to, 34 this morning where I live, 48 in downtown SF.

chyna's avatar

@zenvelo. What temps are you used to?

janbb's avatar

@zenvelo It was cooler than I expected while I was out there.

zenvelo's avatar

@chyna Lows about 50 in San Francisco, and low 40s where I live. We get a few overnight drops into the high 20s/low 30s every year, but not very often, and we complain about it all the time.

Rarebear's avatar

San Diego. We went to the beach yesterday and my daughter laid out in a bikini.

chyna's avatar

—@rarebear sucks—

ucme's avatar

Right now?
I’m as snug as a bug in a rug, Carstairs (gawd love him) just ran my bath & placed all my lil rubber duckies just as I like them, facing outward so they don’t see my gentleman sausage.

rebbel's avatar

Fricking.

Rarebear's avatar

@chyna now we are at the Zoo and most people are walking around in t shirts and shorts. I have a sweatshirt tied around my waist in case it gets chilly.

Yes. I suck. :-)

flutherother's avatar

We had a heavy fall of snow here overnight that closed the airport for a while. The temperature has been hovering around 32F all day and there were lots of kids sledging and building snowmen in the park.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

-32 Celsius with wind chill at -45

It’s pretty cold, for my area. It’s getting colder. There’s something weird about seeing ice on palm trees, and tropical plants.

This time of year, I work on the Charleston peninsula, mainly in doorways. I had to buy a couple jackets, when I realized that the last flood destroyed my only cold gear. Two pairs of socks helps a lot. I wear a bandana, and a knit skully to keep my bald head warm. When the wind is bad, I tuck my big beard down in my neck/collar. It helps. My old motorcycle gloves are great. They are warm, and quite useful in a fight. The cold keeps people from being as crazy, as normal. So, lots of standing, and just trying to stay warm…

My dog has a couple shirts/sweaters, as pit bulls have very short hair…

We makin it;)

janbb's avatar

It’s 18 degrees here and snowing.

3°F right now, just north of Boston. Brrrr.

tedibear's avatar

10 F inside, 62 F inside. I’m not cold when I go out because I am lucky enough to have a good coat and mittens.

zenvelo's avatar

It just warmed from the overnight low of 34 up to 42. Another t degrees and I can go for a run.

Mariah's avatar

Another Boston jelly checking in….mentally preparing myself for the annual hell-months. Just kill me now.

cookieman's avatar

Yup @Mariah. January – March can be dark, dank, cold, and quiet. Hang in there.

jonsblond's avatar

It’s 1am here in west central IL. It’s -12 F with a wind chill of -31 and it’s only getting colder. Our high for today won’t reach above 0.

I don’t want to see our next heating bill.

SergeantQueen's avatar

2* with a -11 real feel

ragingloli's avatar

5 degrees.
Did not wear my winter jacket the whole seasons, so warm it is.

janbb's avatar

@ragingloli You’re talking Celsius, I assume.

ragingloli's avatar

Kelvin, actually.

MrGrimm888's avatar

Going to get down to 19° tonight. That’s about as cold as it can get here. Lots of people here don’t even have clothes for that type of weather…

chyna's avatar

-2 on my way to work this morning. Brrr.

janbb's avatar

@chyna That’s cold!

chyna's avatar

I love my butt warmer in my car!

janbb's avatar

I knew someone who could start her car from inside the house. It seemed like a luxury but now seems quite attractive.

canidmajor's avatar

We’re up to a semi-tropical 20 degrees! Flip flops and T-shirts! Wow!

janbb's avatar

I know people, including my candidate for Congress, who did a Polar Bear Plunge yesterday!

chyna's avatar

Those people are crazy! I’d have a heart attack!
It’s up to 17 here now. No snow though.

canidmajor's avatar

Well, we have sun, which helps. Makes getting into my car a little easier.

janbb's avatar

@chyna Yeah – just seeing pictures of them standing on the beach in bathing suits before the plunge, made me shiver.

MrGrimm888's avatar

7.5 inches of snow here in Moncks Corner SC. It’s still coming steady….

janbb's avatar

@MrGrimm888 Coming our way tonight and tomorrow.

canidmajor's avatar

@MrGrimm888, stay safe down there! Sounds like we’ll all be shoveling for a while…

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Thanks yall. The snow has stopped, but it hasn’t melted, and it’s 16° tonight…

ragingloli's avatar

how does the snow not melt at 16°?

MrGrimm888's avatar
