What apps should I get for my new Android Moto X4 phone?

Asked by LuckyGuy (43880points) December 29th, 2017

Two days ago, I entered the 21st century and replaced my flip phone with a smartphone – a Motorola Moto X4. Now I have to figure out how to get the most out of it. I don’t want to play games with my phone although I do have Sudoku.
What apps should I download. – preferably free – that would be useful? So far I have Cardboard (for VR), Firefox Focus (for secure browsing), GPS Status (for GPS info), NFC Tag info (for reading NFC tags).
What else do I need?
What do you enjoy?

If you like photography, and editing your pictures, Snapseed is quite nice.
Very effective, and simple to use.

Plex you monster. You do have to pay a one time fee of 5 bucks to unlock it.

But I will enable sync for you on my server. After that there will be a download button where you can download anything on my server to your phone. So you can watch whatever while on a plane or driving without using cellular data or wifi.

I use Camscanner often, to copy documents. Microsoft Office Lens is a similar app, but I haven’t tried it because I’ve been happy with Camscanner for years.

Dropbox for syncing files with my PCs.

Keepass password safe. I save the Keepass file to a Dropbox folder, so its available and up to date on all my machines.

Wordweb is a local English dictionary – works offline.

Google Find My Device (not an app) allows you to log into a browser and locate your phone, make it ring, or wipe it.

Prey is a non-Google phone finder/ringer/wiper.

VPN client – If you’re running your PPTP own server, you can connect with built-in settings. Their are OpenVPN clients, but I have not used them.

For a paid VPN service, I bought a lifetime VPN Unlimited cheap when they had a promo.

Another few I think you might like.

Sky Map was a Google app on original Android phones, they let it out as open source. The first augmented reality.

Androsensor”: Shows readings from the myriad sensors in your phone – compass, orientation, acceleration, temperature & lots lots more.

“GPS Test”: See which satellite signals are being received and their strengths.

I do love this list!!! There’s a whole lot of space on this baby.
Please keep the recommendations coming!
I want to double it’s weight! :-)

Something you will find is it can be tough to find a specific app in the Google Play store even if you know the the name – lots of apps with identical or near identical names.

I botched the links on these two. So specifically, here are the ones I Iike.

GPS Test

Androsensor
