Have you been victim of any kind of fraud?
It may be any kind of fraud like cyber fraud etc. Did you get your money back at all? How was your experience with investigating agencies?

Yes. Charges I didn’t make and double-charges by a company that didn’t respond. In each case, my bank, credit card company, or credit union did an investigation and reversed the charges. In one case, they had me change my bank card number.
I also get nearly daily scam attempts by phone and email (I even have some Contacts programmed in that don’t ring my phone and just displays “Scumbag Fake Scam Dorks” when they call), but I rarely report them because the times I have don’t seem to lead to much action.
Oh and I’ll throw in Hertz Europe and the traffic system in Ravenna, Italy charging me for violating a parking zone that I am pretty certain I didn’t really park in, though that’s institutional abuse and/or incompetence of automated systems rather than overt fraud. In that case I went to a lawyer and the recommended course was to deny the charge to my credit card, but I didn’t do it.
My Macy’s card recently had several perfume charges at stores I never went to. I called right as soon as I got the bill and they backed out the charges, gave me a new card and did the investigation.
Credit card fraud, a couple of times. Most recently just a few months ago. I don’t know how the criminals get hold of my number, but they did.
The first time I noticed it on the credit card bill – it was a big charge, maybe $1500 or so. The bank credited me the money immediately and then mailed me some forms I had to sign and mail back. Everything was taken care of.
The recent time, I had a call from Visa Security asking me if I had made several small purchases in towns near Portland Oregon – the answer was, of course, no. So they closed the account and sent me a new card.
Other than that, thank goodness, no frauds of other types.
My mom got hit with that encryption thing that locks all your shit and wants bitcions to unlock them.
Little did my mom know that I have rclone run on her computer every night. It sends all her stuff to my computer everynight. I do versioning too. So basically we did a clean install and we were able to get all her stuff back.
I am the best son!!
I sourced the infection… for the love of god…
NEVER FUCKING INSTALL ANYTHING IF IT SAYS YOU NEED TO DO IT TO WATCH A VIDEO!!!
Hit the back button.. The video is not that important.
A NSFW site continued to charge me after I discontinued their service.
@johnpowell – I particularly like the “I am the Best Son” line…
@elbanditoroso :: It is 100% accurate. My nerdy saved all her bookmarks and passwords and pictures. I am a hero.
Someone used my debit card details to make several big online purchases last year. I noticed it that same day and contacted my bank who issued me with a new card and replaced the money quickly. How the person got my details I have no idea as I am usually pretty careful with my card.
@flutherother :: When I lived with my sisters son he was working at a restaurant. They had a crayon by the register. If your card has raised numbers they can copy it in a second. And the three digit security number is easy to remember.
They had work parties at my apartment. Lots of joking about the dude that grabbed her ass. And he doesn’t know it but he bought my shoes.
I once sent $45 to site to “reserve” a free vacation, with money back guarantee, but none of the dates I picked were available, and when I asked for a refund, they said I had to take the vacation first. I asked for a list of the available dates, but they didn’t answer. Soon my letters were marked “not at this address”.
Closest I’ve ever experienced fraud is when 5 of my highschool teachers were coaches, and not actual teachers. My highschool hired them because they couldn’t get new teachers for that particular school year. The following year the superintendent and principal were fired.
Of course this isn’t considered fraud, but I feel like my students rights were violated.
I worked at a mail order company where we shipped $20,000 in goods to thieves with stolen credit card numbers.
We were following the verification rules from our credit card processor, including calling the bank to verify we were shipping to the card billing address. What the bank did not tell us was the address had been changed the day before. The bank didn’t care. They yanked the money away from us.
The credit card processor, didn’t care, they had no liability under the contract.
The police didn’t care, they said there was nothing they could do.
So who cared? The Secret Service. They had us take another order from the fraudsters. They sent an agent in a UPS uniform and truck to make the delivery. A child answered the door and said no adults were there to sign for the package. That was the end of the story.
A BoA employee made a fake ID using my name, and stole $10,000 from my Mom’s account (I was a joint cosigner).
My Mom paid a lot of attention to her accounts, and alerted the bank. The bank replaced her money, and the employee went to jail.
I’ll say!
• Santa Claus
• Easter Bunny
• Tooth Fairy
• Til’ Death Us Do Part (twice!)
My brother in law forged my signature and my wife’s signature for a $250K loan and spent the money and quickly went bankrupt.
He’s now 70 years old and broke.
He says that he’ll pay us back.
