I’m a history buff and I like reading quotes, humorous or profound, by famous people.

I’ll start..Daniel Boone was once queried by some admirers as to whether he had ever been lost in the wilderness. He responded that, “I can’t rightly say as I was ever lost, but I did get a mite bewildered once for a couple of weeks”.

Another one I like was a blunt assessment of Dwight Eisenhower by Harry Truman. He wrote in his memoirs that: “I think the key to Ikes appeal was that marvelous smile. But those of us who knew him realized that he was a bitter, angry and unhappy man”.

He wasn’t famous but on a caving trip in Mexico as we were sliding down a rock face to land on a ledge that was about three feet wide and had about a 400’ drop on the other side a friend of mine said “There’s gonna be pinch marks on this rock where my ass is grabbin’!” I always thought that was both funny and rather profound.

Topically, I like this quote:

“Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man”. General Patton

I think about this whenever I hear Trump go on about his goddam wall.

“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
