Have you ever heard a voice over on a TV commercial that made you cringe!

Asked by Kardamom (33529points) February 13th, 2018 from iPhone

I don’t mind seeing commercials on TV. Sometimes they’re funny, and sometimes they’re advertising things that I am interested in. Otherwise, they’re just kind of nuetral and I tune them out.

About a year ago, Panera Bread started using someone who I guess is a very young teenage girl or boy. I can’t really tell. Panera is moving forward with making their foods “cleaner” by removing additives and dyes, which is commendable, but the kid actor who is advertising this change drives me crazy.

This is a shortened clip of one of those ads: https://www.ispot.tv/ad/wgZ3/panera-bread-catering-good-clean-and-real

I know that most people don’t really care for commercials, but can you think of any that just turned you off simply due to the voice over?

About a million. Advertisers who want their small kids to to voice them are the worst.

I’m pretty sure that’s a woman’s voice in that clip, and it’s one that I could sit through and easily ignore. What I despise are those loud shrill things designed to wake you from your nap.

I don’t think it’s too bad..!!

Most ads make me cringe, practically all my life.

I am also generally offended by the assumptions of the ways ads are presented, and actively avoid products and companies with annoying ads.

I’m also mildly annoyed that so many people tune out ads, because I feel that lack of objection enables them to continue being so annoying.

The Panera ad you linked is annoying. The music, voice and visuals seems to be designed to torture the mind in subtle ways while seeming to do nothing wrong. The evil arts have developed over the years.

Let’s see, simply due to the voiceover – well, many many movie ads have extremely annoying voiceovers that try to get you excited by the tone of voice of the narrator while they hope you’re not noticing how manipulative it is while they try to overload you with visuals. Many of them start of with a very similar type of phrasing, such as: “ImAgine a WORLLLD where [Bla bla BLA]”. They used to often be done by one guy, Don LaFontaine until he died, but the annoying style lives on.

Kellogg’s Fruitful Bran had one of my least favorite commercials of all time (but it’s the song lyrics that do it, not a voiceover), and pretty much exemplifies the kind of thing that I hate our society for for not storming the ad agency and burning it to the ground in protest, but instead letting it play and not acknowledging the insult to intelligence that it is.

The ben and gerrys ice cream one at the, where the narrator uses a cringy colonial accent.

Anything with Gilbert Gottfried in it. He has the worst,l most grating voice.

Another one – this is on radio, not TV, is the person who does the ZYPPAH ads. link I turn the station when he comes on.

The ones that obviously feature the chain’s own children, like Spangles. They don’t do voice overs but they’re in the commercial.

We have an attorney in Wichita, Brad Pistotnick, who lost his law license in the 80’s because he beat the shit out of his wife. He owns and manages a law firm now. Every one of his commercials feature really cute, kind of helpless and ditzy young things. Total turn off. Guess he forgot that half of his potential clients are female, and most of the rest aren’t pedophiles.

And then there is that one guy on Dateline. How a simple commentator can overact is beyond me, but he has it down to a fine science. So annoying.

Absolutely. Car dealership commercials would probably top my list.

If Dutch can bring up dateline, I have to mention Nancy Grace. If she and I got stuck in an elevator, I doubt I would last an hour before she had an “accident.”. ..

There’s only one voice on television that ever annoyed me. Fran Drescher. What an annoying bitch. I’d rather listen to orange colored Jersey girls scrape their fake nails on chalkboard.

Fran Drescher may have a funny voice that some people don’t like, but Ms. Drescher created the Cancer Schmancer Health Summit which helps people to get early detection for cancer and other health related problems. They go into the community with mobile screening units to where people, who may be poor, or have limited access to health care, need this.

Ms. Drescher is an advocate for women’s health issues. She is a survivor of uterine cancer, that was misdiagnosed for years, before she was able to get proper treatment. The mission of her foundation is to make sure that that doesn’t happen to other people.

You can read about the Mission of Cancer Schmancer here: https://www.cancerschmancer.org/whs/

She is also very active as a supporter of LGBT rights.

So she might have a funny voice, but she’s a terrific humanitarian.
