Can the body heal itself? #2 in the series: Arthritis (please see inside)

Asked by 2davidc8 (10189points) February 16th, 2018

For background, I refer you to the first question in this series.
I am intrigued by the amazing capacity of the body to heal itself and reverse and recover from certain conditions, without drugs or surgery. Continuing in the series, I would now like us to turn our attention to Arthritis.
Have you, or have you known someone, who has found relief or cure through only diet, exercise, rest & relaxation, tai chi, yoga, vacation, environmental changes (move to a drier climate, change of scenery), physical therapy, non-prescription drugs, vitamins, minerals, herbs, probiotics, massage therapy, acupuncture, electrical stimulation, light/laser therapy, Feldenkrais, meditation, more social interaction, saunas, Jacuzzi, mud baths, what have you… (OTC drugs like aspirin are OK.) (Some of things on this list may not apply in this case, but they’re listed here so we don’t forget them when we discuss other diseases/conditions later.)
Again, we look at stopping or reversing the condition without prescription drugs or surgery.
(What prompted this question was that many years ago, a co-worker of mine tested high for blood pressure and cholesterol. His wife was so shocked that she put him on a very strict diet. This diet was nothing unusual, just the ordinary stuff we constantly hear about: lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains, cut down on red meat, as well as the sugar, salt, calories, etc. He must have lost something on the order of 30–35 lbs. And he brought his numbers WAY down. I asked him if he did anything else, like exercise. He said nope, just diet alone.)

Absolutely! I used to work at an assisted living center, and part of the benefit was a free meal every day at work. But after a few months of working there, my joints started to hurt. My job was very physical, and I realized that if my condition continued to decline, I would soon be crippled. I knew the only change I had made was my diet. And knowing the people who worked in the kitchen I quickly realized they were using the cheapest oils they could buy.

I stopped eating there and began to eat using bringing my food from home and the joint pain went away.

I felt so bad for those residents! They must have felt horrible!
