Getting phone calls from an out of service number?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12991points) March 2nd, 2018

I keep getting calls from the same exact number. When answered, no one says anything. The call hangs up 8 seconds after I answer. I called back once and all I got was a automated man saying the number was out of service. I have gotten 12 or 13 calls from this number.

Weird! Complain to the phone company about it, see what they have to say.

Just block the number.

Usually these are temporary numbers from something like Google Voice or another “internet phone” service. They aren’t set up to receive calls, but telemarketers love them because they’re cheap, not attached to an address or account, and easy to automate.

When they’re cut off, they just move to a new sign up and get a new number.

A lot of cell phone companies have started offering call blocking apps or services for free, so you can activate them and they’ll filter known spam calls automatically, like we do for email. AT&T has Call Protect which has finally saved me from all the lists I got added to somehow.

Highly recommended.

Spammers. Ignore it.

Yeah, I guess the solution was pretty obvious. But it’s so weird.

What if… someone who knows your number decided to prank you. Just block them.

Just block it. If you are interested you can possibly look it up on 800notes and enter an anon complaint. You’ll find other people with the same issue .
