Is it legal in the Olympics to inject ones self with oxygenated blood?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) March 4th, 2018

Say from a time when the blood is the most oxygenated. Either at high or low altitude? What about using an I.V. salane for hydrating? Or using a cooling device?

Blood doping is prohibited. IV saline I’m not sure about but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was frowned upon.

@Lightlyseared Can one go on oxygenated air? Or a stint in a hyperbaric chamber?

Why would you need it though? If it’s performance enhancing I would assume it’s not allowed.

Hyperbaric chambers aren’t specifically banned (as far as I can see) and Micheal Phelps used to sleep in one during training apparently. The use of them is frowned on as unsporting though and there have been calls to ban them.

Don’t know if oxygen therapy is specifically banned but given that every double blind trial looking at has found zero benefit at improving performance in athletes it’s probably not worth the effort.
