Is this just an older person thing, or do younger people read them on a regular basis, too? If you reply please state your age group if you are comfortable doing so.

I did for a while when I was in my 50s (I actually was fascinated by how so many were worded) but I don’t tend to any more. I guess my curiosity was satisfied.
Sometimes I do in the NY Times – mainly if it’s an interesting person. (In my 60s now.) I saw a documentary a year or two ago called Obit about that department at the Times.
sorry, forgot, I’m in my mid-60s now.
I have been reading them since I was a teen-ager. My parents moved out of the country, and my mom asked me to read them so I could let her know if someone she might have known died.
It became a habit. For a while I was checking for parents of friends; now I am checking for contemporaries.
It is well known as an Irish habit. The San Francisco Chronicle’s sports page is printed on green paper, and called The Sporting Green. The Death Notices page is colloquially called “The Irish Sporting Green”.
I’m 67 and check it out just to look for anyone that I know.
The Seattle Times (Sunday edition) has 2½ pages of obituaries.
Yes. Sometimes I find people who went to school with Mom and Dad, and myself, plus past co-workers and a$$hole bosses… Plus it’s interesting to see what their loved ones had to say about them and what their lives were composed of…
I read them this morning and found out that my dad’s last living brother had died. My dad died when I was a teenager and we never really kept up with his side of the family.
I never do. I don’t get access to newspapers and I only read them if they apply to what I’m doing. I’m 17
I’m 45 and I’ve read them always. I love the short summaries of lives.
Yes, but not in the way you think.
Newspapers here don’t show obits. I don’t know why. But I browse a site called findagrave.com. There are obits there of many kinds. I’m drawn the most to the unknown people with fascinating back stories. Makes me wonder how they faded away when their life was so exciting.
I’m 22.
Now that I’m older, I have stopped. I’m too afraid to read my own!
Don’t you wonder what yours will read as @MrGrimm888 ? I like to add spice to my life just so my obit is better haha!
I only know the Top Gear obituary:
“Dead.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Anyway, back to the studio.”
@KNOWITALL . No. I have no interest in my obituary. It would likely be full of flaws, about the real me. My friends, and family know a lot about me, but I don’t have Facebook, or even many pictures of myself. When I Google myself, it’s got lots of things wrong, even my age…
My life will probably be like my fishing trips. I will have quietly paddled through, only leaving a small wake that will dissappear quickly…
