Has anyone here used an air fryer?

Asked by LostInParadise (32183points) March 24th, 2018

I only found out about them from seeing an air fryer cookbook. What types of meals have you used them for? How did they turn out? What can an air fryer do that a convection oven can’t?

A priest that travels by airplane or helicopter. See “this biography”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friar_Alessandro of an air friar.

^^^Ha!

A guy at work has one set up, it get’s used for reheating lunches. Much better than a microwave, because breads don’t get all mushy.

My wife bought the air fryer. It works pretty good. She does all sorts of things in it…french fries, chicken wings, onion rings…basically anything you might want a “fried” flavor for. It cooks quickly and thoroughly and doesn’t use a lot of oil…just a very little bit in fact. Not sure it can do things the convection oven can’t but it seems to cook more evenly than a convection oven. I have found that with the convection oven, the outside of the food will get well done fairly quickly, but maybe too much for when the rest is done. The air fryer is really I think just a glorified convection oven, but it seems to cook more evenly. Maybe the design of the cooking area.

Glad to see that I am not the only one who had never heard of it.

Thanks @seawulf575 . It seems like it may be worth checking out. It would be nice to have foods that have the crispness of fried foods but without all the oil.

I just heard about it for the first time last week. It sounds useful for someone who fries a lot.
