I have an idea for a video game where do I start?

You might want to take a look at Twine, it handles a lot of what you’re talking about, without a lot of programming, and there’s a large community to support it.

You can start with a flowchart, or just jump right in, whatever motivates you to get after it.

Giving up doesn’t sound like the best plan. What are you stuck on? There’s lots of folks on fluther with programming experience and there’s lots of twine forums that can help as well.
