I messed up both my hands at a young age from repetitive injuries can I fix my hands over time from drawing circles on paper?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) April 21st, 2018

Not Doctor Strange injury bad, but bad enough. I can’t read my writing and I can’t tie my own shoes. That’s why I like Fluther, because I can type my answer with out worry for poor penmanship. Doctor said that my hands won’t improve much over time. I tried therapy in grade school and I was embarrassed. I was told to draw circles in paper and it hurt over time. I injured my hands over and over many times from grade 3 – grade 9, and 5 years ago from punching a brick wall with my writing hand, and from running into walls and from running top speed on a sidewalk. I have a scribbler and am ready to start drawing circles now just asking if it is worth the effort?

Dr. Strange except from Wikipedia:
The character’s origin story relates that he was once a brilliant but egotistical surgeon. After a car accident severely damages his hands and hinders his ability to perform surgery, he searches the globe for a way to repair them and encounters the Ancient One. After becoming one of the old Sorcerer Supreme’s students, he becomes a practitioner of both the mystical arts as well as martial arts. Along with knowing many powerful spells, he has a costume with two mystical objects—the Cloak of Levitation and Eye of Agamotto—which give him added powers. Strange is aided along the way by his friend and valet, Wong, and a large assortment of mystical objects. He takes up residence in a mansion called the Sanctum Sanctorum, located in New York City. Later, Strange takes the title of Sorcerer Supreme.

@RedDeerGuy1 Edit I will practice signing my name over and over in pencil and pen.

Do you think maybe you have carpal tunnel syndrome? Do your hands hurt?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@JLeslie my hands improved with time. I can carry a four liter jug of milk home now and up the stairs. Though I prefer to use a backpack and a dufflebag. My hands only hurt if I do pushups or if I use them too much . I had a boxers injury to my left hand recently, (five years ago). I am left handed. Would signing my name over and over help my hand?

Carpal tunnel develops from repetitive actions with your hands. Some people seem to be much more prone than others. I don’t know what you have though, I just was wondering if it might be that, it might be something totally different. For carpal tunnel they recommend total rest for a few weeks. Wearing some sort of splint or brace for your wrist. Some people have surgery to fix it.

Since you were told to use your hands as therapy, I’m guessing you don’t have it, but here’s a link if you want to see if any symptoms fit.

A girl I know got it from working in a subshop. Some people blame it on having to type a lot in their jobs all day.

@JLeslie I read your link. It is safe to say that I don’t have Carpal tunnel syndrome.

I’d try going to a Feldenkrais practitioner… though I think the nearest ones to Red Deer are probably the ten or so in Calgary.
