Why jellyfish?

I read that a fluther is a group of jellyfish, but was there a reason to choose jellyfish? As opposed to orangutans or mealworms or chickadees?

I don’t know if this was intentional on the part of the Founders, but I find it especially significant that Siphonophores (the group jellies belong to) are colonial animals. Each jelly is a colony of specialized zooids—integral animal-like organisms—all doing their bit to make the whole critter work (more here)
