I’d start with listening and trying understand and relate to where they’re coming from, and acknowledging them.
More advanced would be noticing what about your mental and emotional organization comes from them and your ancestors, and what automatic reactions and conversation patterns & breakdowns you tend to have with them, so you can get some freedom to get past those.
It depends. How old are the parties involved? What is the current status of the parent/child relationship? Are the parents still together?
