What are the chances of Bill Cosby spending any serious time in prison, at his age?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33518points) April 27th, 2018

My guess is 0. He might spend a night or two, but that’s all.

What do you consider “serious time”?

I think there is a strong possibility he is in prison for one year. Especially since he is defiant and expresses privilege.

What does his age have to do with his prison sentence? Genuine question.

chyna's avatar

I think he will spend 1–3 years in prison.

He won’t do any prison time but it won’t be because of his age.. My Grandfather’s cousin couldn’t live on her social security & began selling pot in order to buy food. When caught, she was given 20 years. She was 92 y/o. When her lawyer pointed that out to the judge, he responded that she should have thought about that before she chose to break the law. Of course, she was poor & going hungry & sold pot to eat. Cosby is rich & entitled & deserves to be relieved of his error in judgment. I’ll be surprised if he even gets 6 months at one of our country club facilities; so no, he won’t do any serious time!!!

I don’t care if Cosby manages to evade time in prison. By now his unprecedented pariah status guarantees him little more than shame and disgrace. It’s the worst kind of sentence and I expect he won’t show his face in public for the remainder of his days. Those will be days spent dreading the obituary to come and the humiliating legacy of his existence.

I suspect they will claim he is too ill to go to prison and he will die lonely and abhorred. He deserves time in prison but I doubt it will happen.

Pretty good. If not, there will be a feminine uproar that resound from coast to coast, and border to border! But it will be a laid back type of prison for low risk inmates.

I hope he does. What he was convicted of is a horrific thing to do to another human. He needs to be removed from society so he doesn’t have the opportunity to do it again.

chyna's avatar

@gorillapaws. At 80 years old, I kinda doubt he can even get it up any more.

gorillapaws's avatar

@chyna That may be true, but he could still drug and sexually assault women in other ways.

janbb's avatar

i suspect he is shackled to his wife’s ankle by now but it would still be a good lesson for others if he did spend jail time.

The old finger bandit will be there long enough to sign autographs for the next generation of inmates.

Jeruba's avatar

I’m with @Mariah: why shouldn’t he? If he’s not well, let him enjoy the gentle benefits of free medical care for inmates.

He will be placed in a minimum security prison, the way that Martha Stewart was. He will be able to serve his sentences concurrently and get out early for good behavior.

Serious time? Dude! It’s Bill Cosby in prison! Throw in Jimmie Walker, Richard Pryor and Sidney Poitier, and you have a blaxploitation comedy from the 70’s.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

He will tie it up in the courts with appeals for years. Two mistrials later he would get let out.

@chyna “At 80 years old, I kinda doubt he can even get it up any more.”

He’ll be acquitted on appeal, because the evidence that he raped anyone won’t stand up in court! ;-)

LadyMarissa's avatar

I read yesterday that he won’t be going to jail at all. He’s agreed to be under house arrest.

@chyna 19 y/o gold digger here married wealthy old man around 85 thinking the same thing. All she wanted to do was wait for him to die & he’d leave her enough to live well off. She had 5 of his babies within the first 6 years & he lived to be 95.

LostInParadise's avatar

The house arrest is temporary. He will be sentenced in 75 days

Patty_Melt's avatar

He probably hasn’t “got it up” in quite a while.
The accusations involved fingers.

Dutchess_III's avatar

The accusations span decades. This wasn’t a recent thing.
