Is there a trick to having thick nails that don't break and peel?

I have never had nails that grow long and stay thick enough
to manage. I have tried taking biotin and gelatin and using different nail polishes that promise thicker nails. Is there something else I could do to help my nails….do thin nails mean a health issue?
