Guest book is just an indication that xyz personality visited the place on this day and written so and so message about the place . It can serve as historical purpose later. I don’t think there’s any other significance.
Certainly those who knew and loved the deceased might take comfort or find solace in such things.
When I have stayed at places like cabins in the mountains or cottages by the ocean, if the place has a guest book, I will note my visit. I make comments on places nearby that I enjoyed.
And then I read through other’s posts.
And my mother treasured the book after my father’s funeral, because part of the greiving process for her was writing notes to people who came to the service. When my girlfriend’s mother died three years ago, the guest book helped the four daughters thank people who attended because they couldn’t spend time with everyone at the reception afterward.
They definitely serve a purpose. That’s why people use them.
I read them. If I go to a beach place or sometimes I have gone to little boutiques that have guest books, I will read them to see what others have recommended. One beach place that we rented even told us the name of the hermit crab that hung out on the deck (Hermie).
I read the guest book when family members have died because I might have missed some people, or forgotten they were there.
When both my parents passed, I sat down when I felt I was ready & YES I read EVERY last entry. The day of the funeral was such a blur that I found a little bit of comfort in knowing who had taken time out of their day to be there. It was kind of like it told me who their “real friends” were!!!
I know some of their real friends probably couldn’t make it; but it was comforting to see the ones that did!!!
Yes. There are two tree houses, on the Edisto River. I kayak/canoe there often. I stop by the tree houses once a summer, or so, and read the entries. Some are quite amusing. Some people spent their first night in the swamp out there. I can’t say that I have made an entry though. It wouldn’t be right, if I didn’t stay the night there…
Hotel receptionists and supervisors will need to check on guest book as part of their job.
