i dont think it will ever end - it will end up similar to the battle between xbox and the playstation

However the best thing to do now is get combo players that play both HD DVDs and BLU RAY like the LG GGW-H20LI

Nice, but not really interested in a computer drive. Thinking set-top box.

Most of what I've heard suggests BluRay is winning...but I have a PS3 so I hear what I want to hear.

Personally, I see digital distribution mdiums completely killing off bluray and hddvd in the next year or two. Bandwidth is getting increasingly cheaper; I mean I am paying $30/month for a 20Mbps link. Then you have FIoS ready to take over in most new construction areas, and you have the new Docsis3 standard for cable modems that will seriously increase speeds.

What I am getting at is digital distribution with some minimal drm costs nothing really to sell. You need no physical presence, you need no packaging, you are looking at near-pure profit no matter what quantity you sell.

You can never run out of stock, the studios themselves can rent directly to the individuals, anything anyone can think of can be done or test marketed for no out of pocket costs.

You should wait. There have been a few not-so-successful attempts at producing a hybrid player that supports both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Hopefully some company will get it right soon enough.

Blu Ray has won. Toshiba threw in the towel on HD-DVD. Wait anyway. Prices will drop and features will be added. HD-DVD does things Blu Ray doesn’t much in the way Beta did when VHS prevailed so many years ago.
