Why do ALL cats not spend ANY money (of their OWN) on the food they eat?

I’ve noticed this when I used to have cats myself (R.I.P. ALL of you);
When it came down to it, it was always me or my partner that had to open the wallet.
Why is it that not ONE cat EVER pays for their food?

You expect the Overlords and Masters of the Universe to pay for themselves?
Cats are all leftists who won’t get a job and spend their time loitering around looking for handouts.
Cats are all right wing plutocats who feel they can live off the hard work of others.
You gave them NO other choice!!! Had you allowed them to leave the house a few times a day, they would have feasted on birds, mice, or what have you. By denying them the ability to feed themselves, you set yourself up to pay for their food. You enslaved them & then complain because you became responsible for them!!!
Like blaming pugs for being the most repugnant and pathetic members of the canidae family.
You humans made them that way.
Some cats just swing that way, ya dig?
Especially when they scamper around your legs all seductively.
You know they want it.

Cats are an invasive species who will decimate local wildlife if allowed to. Cats are extremely predatory and will hunt and kill even if they are not hungry (seriously, humans have nothing on cats when it comes to sport hunting). This in addition to all the myriad dangers that cats themselves face outdoors. Cars, disease, fights with other cats or animals like raccoons, opossums, humans who will deliberately hurt cats, etc
No, the only responsible thing to do is to keep your cats inside.
They believe themselves privileged and honored guests. Somewhere back in antiquity a treaty was signed granting cats, room, board & all expenses they deem necessary to their comfort and self indulgence. These benefits are bestowed on cats in exchange for the status & fulfillment provided the fools mistakenly believing themselves cat owners.
Is it really a belief, if it is, in fact, fact?
Slaves have no right to complain about not being paid by their masters. Now, now, that would be racist speciexist, wouldn’t it? Dogs, rabbits, fish, and children should also get the same treatment.
@Darth_Algar I’ve had cats for over 40 years. My point was…IF you don’t want to pay to feed them, don’t hold them hostage as cats are very self sufficient & very few are happier inside than they are outside!!!
To be fair, it isn’t all cats. A handful are able to earn a living in movies, commercials, etc.
Some cats have inherited fortunes, and their trust fund pays for their food and human services.
There are some countries where wild cats roam freely. We’ve been to two. Locals put out food and water; some restaurants have no issue with the cats coming in and begging for food from the patrons.

In that context I think you might be taking the question a bit more seriously than the OP probably intended. It reads rather like it was written in humor.
Cats do pay. Some in pest control. Some with love. Some with entertainment. Some with teaching us something about ourselves…
And many pay through the glories involved with being “experimental” animals.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, what about the cats that are in adverts? Or work in film and television. How about those sexy cats that pose on calendars, or those that have been forced to work hard on YouTube and bring in millions?
What about those poor cats that are kept on farms earning their meals by eating mice and other disgusting rodents.
Have you ever asked them if they enjoyed their work?
Or even more, how many cats did you think it took, to put cat eyes in the road along highway 69 for example. The pain and suffering is unreal.
Up with cats!
Cats pay us back tenfold with love
If a cat understood it had money and could shop (knew what was available) and pay for things, it would probably make many purchases, especially live mice and birds and good food. Cardboard boxes, heat lamps, electric blankets… catnip… treats, lots of treats…
Cats don’t have opposable thumbs, so they can’t pay you.
But they have retractable claws, with which to pay you back.
