Don’t eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice with some, not all, blood pressure meds.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist, it depends on the the exact meds.

Take it at the same time of day each day, so that the amount of medicine in your system remains consistent.

Both of the above and no alcohol.

Get your blood pressure checked regularly, like at least once a month.

In case you’re wondering, the reason you need to keep monitoring your BP is that you may be taking too much or too little medicine, and your doc will need to adjust the dose. Believe it or not, it’s possible for BP to be too low as a result of the meds.

Buy a blood pressure monitor from Walgreen or Target. They are around $30 and worth every penny. I have low BP and check it a couple of times per week.

Checking your BP regularly helps you see what triggers cause it to rise because you probably don’t feel any differently when it does.

I just started. Ugh.

For ACE inhibitors don’t take with grapefruit juice or grapefruit. In fact I think you need to be careful with the grapefruit think all day, I’m not sure about that.

Don’t eat high potassium. Don’t an entire large banana. Don’t use salt substitute that is potassium. Etcetera.

Check your blood pressure daily. Two or three times a day when first trying to figure it out.
