Can they sell an otc ( over the counter) breathalyzers at pharmacies, liquor and 24/7 stores?

So you can know if it is safe to drive after a beer? Or after smoking pot? How much would they sell for? Would you buy one?

I would guess they could sell them.

I don’t see why not.

They are for sale. And I have one. It is old. though. 8–9 years? AlcAlert BT5500.
If I recall it was about $40.

I don’t think there is one for detecting impairing levels of pot.

@RocketGuy We have a need in Canada. Seeing that recreational pot is legal in October 17, 2018. Someone can make fist loads of money coming up with one.

I’ve seen them for sale in Walmart & Walgreens here & both are 24 hour stores. I didn’t need one so I didn’t pay attention to the price. They also sell kits so you can test your kids for drug use…one specifically for pot. Main problem is the kits are only for a limited number of uses (like 1 or 2) so it could become quite expensive over a period of time!!!

IMHO that would be a good thing.

@RedDeerGuy1 :: Recreation pot has been legal for a few years here. Stoners getting up to drive for snacks is not a thing. If anything Pizza Hut will start delivering 24/7.

Those pot testing kits will show positive well after the effects wear off, so you can’t prove intoxication was at the time of any problem occurring.

There are kits for quantifying pupil dilation. They are not 100% useful. It’s like a card, you hold next to a person’s eye…

@all Am wondering how this technology can be misused? Like trying to get “high” score for testing.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 If there is a way to use it, there is also a way to misuse it!!! It will be interesting to see how the misuse occurs with this!!!

The point of getting high is to enjoy the feeling. Why make a game of it, esp. with a gadget?

This would be ETOH, alcohol specific and would not be helpful for other drugs/chemicals which can impair thinking/driving. But helpful nonetheless.
