Was it in poor form for Trump to casually wear his suit jacket unbuttoned during such formal occasions?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47069points) July 12th, 2018

All the men around him had their jackets formally buttoned. I ask because on the live feed today someone from Brittan mentioned it. Scroll down for pictures.

I wouldn’t care if he appeared in a towel and flip flops. The man’s wardrobe failings are meaningless compared to his catastrophic performance as a diplomat.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I agree. Is he just not capable of making a decent impression?

zenvelo's avatar

The man can’t wear a tie properly, who gives a shit how his jacket is?

Patty_Melt's avatar

I am quite honored to be among so many perfect people.

johnpowell's avatar

So knowing how to wear clothes makes you the “elite”... Get Patty to her People.

Funny thing. That video taught me how to ollie when I was about 15 years old. Recorded it on VHS from MTV to watch the ollie part a bunch of times over and over again to see how to move my feet.

Inspired_2write's avatar

He will always do the opposite as this grabs media attention, his main narcissistic goal.
He meets the Queen soon..hope she puts him in his place?

elbanditoroso's avatar

It used to be that people worried about what WOMEN wore to these functions. Now we’re worrying about men?

Look, Trump has no class. He has no sense of propriety or history or respect. He is uncultured.

Why would expect anything else from Trump other than some assholish sort of appearance?

rojo's avatar

^^ ” Trump has no class. He has no sense of propriety or history or respect. He is uncultured.” and an embarrassment to our country.

One thing you can say however is that he is exactly what his base (⅓ of America) want and they are proud of the way he is.

rojo's avatar

I wonder why Melania didn’t wear her “I really don’t care” jacket or is that saved for hubby in the bedroom now?

it is a raincoat so she doesn’t have to worry about the splash factor

zenvelo's avatar

@rojo Melania isn’t on the trip. That was her body double walking off the plane with Trump.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

I didn’t find the photo scrolling down. I saw Trump in a tux looking better than usual. And Boris Johnson with his jacket undone.

MrGrimm888's avatar

I long for the day when all we have to be concerned about is Trump’s attire…

I enjoy laughing at his wife dodging his hand, so this isn’t too trivial I suppose, but it’s pretty low on my list of priorities.

Yes. Very little things matter a lot, in different cultures, and in an ideal world our POTUS would listen carefully to his/her advisors, and dress/act accordingly. With Trump, I’m happy if he is potty trained…

rojo's avatar

Q: What kind of underwear does Trump wear?

A: Hmmmm…..Depends.

seawulf575's avatar

Poor form? Possibly. There actually is a right and wrong way to button a jacket. But in the end, does it really matter? If how he buttons his jacket is all they can comment on, doesn’t that sound like there is some grasping at straws?

Aster's avatar

It’s possibly poor form but I’m very surprised anyone would notice. I guess that’s what’s meant by ” critiquing. ”
Missed you guys lately.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I actually didn’t really notice. On the live feed someone from England mentioned it. I think it’s disrespectful.

It’s probably simply because he can’t button it around his gut. To be able to he’d have to get a bigger coat but then he’d have to face the fact that he’s actually obese.

Aster's avatar

@Dutchess_III. I do not think he’s obese. Sure; he’s not skinny (yuck) but I like extra pounds on guys and his height is a big plus as far as appearances are concerned.
Even so he maybe could use a larger jacket. Sorry if I sound southern. It does grow on you eventually and you can forget how to speak correctly. lol

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh, he’s obese.

Dutchess_III's avatar

“My American friends are asking me about President Trumps’s observation that the British ‘like him’

I regret this is quite unfounded

The explanation for this canard is that Trump is pronoid

Pronoid is the opposite of paranoid. A paranoid person thinks, without any basis in reality, that everybody is out to get them. A pronoid person is someone who thinks, without any
basis in reality, that everybody likes them

The fact is that the British loathe Donald Trump

This is because he is the polar opposite of a ‘ Gentleman ‘, who has qualities the British admire. A fine example is Gareth Southgate

To the British, a ‘ Gentleman ’ is a man who is modest, well-mannered, self deprecating, quietly intelligent, considerate of other people’s feeling, and well-informed.

He is not vulgar, inflated, vain, boastful, noisily ignorant, sleazy and common as muck

I hope this clears up any confusion”

stanleybmanly's avatar

does it for me!

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

I do not think he’s obese…I like extra pounds on guys

Enjoy!

And today he’s walking with queen with his jacket unbuttoned like a schlub.

notnotnotnot's avatar

If Trump were a Democrat and supported [enter whatever policies you think are important here], what would be your response to people commenting on his “poor form”?

Aster's avatar

@Call_Me_Jay his underwear showing under those dreadful shorts is what looks awful to me.
But I feel certain that, if he were a Democrat you guys would say he looks fine and what he does for world peace is what counts.

stanleybmanly's avatar

@seawulf575 Would that the hair, tangerine shading or wardrobe irregularities were “all they can comment on.” But we are NEVER going to get that lucky. Between the needless and clearly counterproductive trade wars, and this triumphal masterpiece of U.S. credibility demolition, I ask you once again: Is Putin getting his money’s worth?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Do you honestly think that if he simply called himself a Democrat we liberals would just….. switch? He’s an utter loser, I don’t care what he calls himself. He’s an utter slob.

Aster's avatar

@stanleybmanly why is it so many people insist that, beause his makeup artist wrongly tinged his skin orange-ish in the past that it IS STILL THAT COLOR? I watch all his appearances and his skin has not been orange tinged for weeks but many people keep calling him Cheeto or some such stupid name. Can’t we concentrate on what really matters which is his relationship with world leaders??
Oh, that’s right. All world leaders hate him .I forgot.

Dutchess_III's avatar

He has become irrelevant to the world leaders.

Aster's avatar

@Dutchess an utter slob? You don’t know that he’s a neatnik perfectionist ?? Nobody is allowed in his penthouse apartment unless they wear surgical booties.
But I’m glad your s/o is slim, trim and wears all his outfits perfectly.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Aster if I had an entire house full of people whose only job is to advise me of fashion, manners and foreign policy and, there would be NO excuse for being a slob, and slouching about. To quote the British, “He is common as muck.”

stanleybmanly's avatar

@Aster You are of course correct. Those superficial blemishes are meaningless. Not ALL world leaders hate him. Kim, Putin, and other ruthless autocrats adore him. And I believe the others are more appalled (as you should be) than hateful.

Dutchess_III's avatar

They don’t adore him. They are laughing at him behind his back because he’s a fool, but they are happy with the fact that he’s so easily manipulated.

Aster's avatar

@Dutchess can you document their laughter? Or at least the metaphor of it?
@stanleybmanly no matter how “ruthless” the world leaders it is much better for the USA if all of us get along. Even if it’s fake it’s better than having them as enemies and starting a war. I’ll take anything other than that; even a so-called large BMI.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Do you seriously contend that Trump is a model for “just getting along”?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh, come on! Kimmy convinced Trump that they were going to shut down nuclear operations, Trump tweeted it, and a week later Kim is all, “Psyche! Just kidding!” You think he was laughing and shaking his head over that?

I refused to get along with a racist, a homophobe, a sex offender, a misogynist. He is everything that is wrong. More British are turning out to protest him than even showed up at his inauguration.

Aster's avatar

He’ll be re elected for some reason. lol
Bill Clinton was definitely a big laugh on the world’s stage. He and Monica were quite an item back then. To say the least. lol She saved “the dress. ” I wonder if she sold it yet? After all, it’s an heirloom.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Clinton was a good president. He was an idiot for thinking with his dick with the Lewinski thing, but he was a good president.
I got some laughs out of it….I was working at a bank and we received a fax from another bank. At the top it read, “When is a cigar not a cigar?”

Aster's avatar

Answer: when it’s really a tampon.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

Bill Clinton was definitely a big laugh on the world’s stage.

Bill Clinton is welcomed when he travels. Obama is adored. Republicans are greeted with jeers and disapproval. Bush Jr. can’t go overseas.

If you deny that, well, I don’t know what to say.

Heck, Bush Jr. hasn’t even been invited to a Republican convention since 2004.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Aster….no

Yes, Trump is the most disrespected president we have ever had. The whole world is wonder what in the hell we did.

Aster's avatar

“Obama is adored.” Well, sure . I mean if a POTUS Is quiet, sweet, plays a lot of golf, sings in a microphone and appears to Love Everybody then what’s there to dislike? Obamacare wasn’t exactly adored, though.
Kennedy was adored. I remember it. They tried to keep his numerous affairs, romps with nude models in the Whitehouse pool and his fling with Marilyn Monroe a secret so I wasn’t even sure it was true. But now , with computers we all know what a major womanizer he was. Wild guy!

ucme's avatar

An offence resulting in your arse being fired & ucme towers.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Aster I am fairly certain you don’t even know what Obamacare is.
Obama was adored and respected because of his intelligence, his decisiveness, his leadership abilities, his eloquence. He is everything trump isn’t.

Aster's avatar

I’m speechless. I’ll give you eloquence; nothing more.

Dutchess_III's avatar

From someone who doesn’t know what “Obamacare” is.

Dutchess_III's avatar

From your link: ”Still, overall, a majority of Americans feel the president is looking out….for the wealthy and big business, and his own business interests—more so than they feel he is looking out for them. ” And that says it all.

You might look it over a bit more carefully. For example 41% are strongly against trump, while only 22% are for him.

Dutchess_III's avatar

At least we can count on Melania

Aster's avatar

@Dutchess you need to look it over more carefully? ”
“However, there are big divides on this, as there have been throughout his Presidency: his core supporters are the most steadfast in saying that he is looking out for their interests, as well as those of the working and middle class overall.”

Dutchess_III's avatar

I quoted directly from your source. 41% of Americans are dead set against him. only 22% are for him.

His “core” supporters are CEO’s and corporations. He’s giving them tax breaks and stuff. Of course they’re for him.
He just grinds the average American underfoot. People are losing jobs, left and right due to his dickish trade war.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

His “core” supporters are CEO’s and corporations.

That’s part of the core. The traits most associated with Trump voters are racism and sexism.

Aster's avatar

I will admit that if he’s a fat slob, irrelevent to the world, racist and sexist, crude and stupid and the big laugh of the world then rejoice ! Feel The Bern in 2020!

Dutchess_III's avatar

I love Bernie, but he is too old, plus I don’t think most people are ready for his radical fixes. They may well bring us back up to par with the rest of the civilized world but I don’t think most of us are ready for that.

Aster's avatar

Bernie will never, ever be POTUS. At his age he seems to need a “boost” but he should stick with the drink.
