Vinegar does kill fungus. I think it’s the acidity. When my daughter in Japan contracted athletes foot from her roommates, One of the treatments she used was soaking her feet in vinegar every night. It worked. But your problem is that your toenail is covering up the fungus that’s growing underneath it. Go ahead and use the vinegar. It won’t hurt, and it might help.
But here’s the good news. My podiatrist told me to rub tea tree oil on my toenail with the fungus. He said if I was religious about its application every night, it would cure it.
He also said it would take months, so don’t give up, and keep at it. I suppose it has to soak through the toenail, when it’s thickened from the fungal infection that can take time.
No. There was some research a few years ago that found it made no difference even after several months. Although that’s not surprising as toenail infections are a bitch to treat. If you want to got for home remedies rubbing vaporub on to the the nail has been shown to work but less than 30% of participants were cured after 11 months.
Go to a Doctor and find out what he advises first BEFORE trying these concoctions as they may waste the time to really heal this infection.
Well, no one owes you a cure. However, don’t expect vinegar to cure a fungal infection. Vinegar does create an environment that isn’t friendly to fungus. That is not enough to cure a flaming nail infection. You will need to take oral meds if you are serious about alleviating the infection.
Tea tree oil helps but doesn’t cure.
I saw a dermatologist for something else about a month ago, and she noted a little spot on my toe. She said to apply some white vinegar to it with a cotton ball once a day. I told my podiatrist this, and he said, “Can’t hurt.”
I’ve done it with apple cider vinegar. But I find to really help it go away you have to treat your whole body by eating more fruit and less meat to balance your ph, since most topical cures only handle the outside. Soak in apple cider vinegar and water for about 20 minutes twice a week. I also made sure file the surface of my nail a little so that it will absorb better. It will take a few months for it to completely grow out. I would also scrape up any fungus crap I could reach and poor some apple cider vinegar directly on it afterwards. Also wear flipflops as often as you can. Fungus like dark and warm. When I didn’t have time for a soak, I would take a rubber glove and cut the thumb and then wrap my toe with a soaked swab of apple cider vinegar and hold it in place with the cut of thumb. This way I could walk around. Tea tree oil does work but I found it dries your nail and can make it brittle and it doesn’t seem to penetrate through the nail as well as the apple cider vinegar.
It may require a systemic Rx to rid the fungus.
