Can you help me turn my link into a word?

You know when you write a word, and it becomes the link to a website. I thought it was word plus colon plus quotes around the link, but I guess not.
I used to do it, but now it isn’t working for me. I don’t know if the system changed, or if I don’t remember how to do it correctly.

And it’s shown at the bottom of the panel you’re typing in. It hasn’t changed.
The quotes are around the word (or phrase). Not around the link.
If you’re on an iPhone, you can hit “edit this response” and there’s a link at the bottom for entire list.
Since the last system upgrade on my iPad mini, that method doesn’t work for me on my tablet. It does on the laptop, however. If you are using a tablet, that might be it.
I noticed that the quotation marks that I type are different than the quotation marks under the hyperlink list.
I have to copy and paste the quotation marks from the list for it to work for me.
They look different when you’re in the edit window. But they look the same once you hit enter. Not sure why that is. It’s rather odd.
(I’m on an iPhone.)
@wundayatta
Not that anyone would want to, but one can use the link-editing function to give the impression that one is using the @ list to address a member, who hasn’t posted in the thread, or even one whose account has been deleted. ;-)
@canidmajor Some keyboards on tablets and smartphones automatically add a space when a punctuation mark is clicked/touched.
That is done because in many cases a space is needed right after a full stop, or a comma is used, I think.
One can disable that in the settings of these keyboard apps (at least in those of mine) if that is the cause of your being not able to get clickable links.
Thanks, @rebbel, I’ll look for that! It used to work fine…<sigh>

Not an issue of having an extra space. At least not on my iPhone.
Yikes, @Brian1946, you just caused me a minor heart attack before I understood what you were doing.

Edit: Not working. That’s what I’ve been doing, I think I wrote it incorrectly in my original post. I’m glad to see other people have the same problem.
@Brian1946 Gawd, I just mentioned missing Wunday on another Q. I wanted to know if he’s ok. No one seemed to know.
