I asked it before & probably been seen several times over the years but giving it a reboot in honour of today being the 20th anniversary of the release of Saving Private Ryan
For the sake of good sense & to clarify to the pedantic element, you can assume that we’re referring to actual wars that took place at some point in history…aye thangyoo ;-}

“Grand Illusion”
Among more modern ones, I loved “Hurt Locker” and “Three Kings.”
300.
It had glistening, shiny, sweaty, buff, shirtless dudes in slowmotion.
Inglourious Basterds is a close runner up.
So many.
Longest Day told a good story.
Great Escape had pathos
Dirty Dozen was just plain fun
Pearl Harbor sucked.
The Man who Never Was was a good spy story,
Von Ryan’s Express
The Blue Max
A Bridge Too Far
Another vote for Von Ryan’s Express! It’s a favorite of 3 of my kids too!
I liked Where Eagles Dare, but the sailor in me also liked U-571
@seawulf575 ”Broadsword calling Danny boy come in…over”
Paths of Glory.
The ultimate anti-war film.
May as well chip in…
Saving Private Ryan
Hell in the Pacific
Where Eagles Dare
Full Metal Jacket
Full Metal Jacket
Gallipoli
Kelly’s Heroes
The Good, The Bad, Goodbye Mr. Chips, and The Ugly and The Best Years Of Our Lives are, essentially, anti-war movies, so I won’t pick them.
I love Patton and Das Boot. Inglourious Bastards is terrific.
I happen to think the best war movies are anti-war movies.
Oh, I almost forgot:
Paul Verhoeven’s “Starship Troopers”. Better than all of the others.
In order of my love for them:
Gone With the Wind
Good morning, Vietnam.
Full Metal Jacket.
Schindlers List
Hacksaw Ridge – phenomenal!
Inglorious Bastards
American Sniper
Hamburger Hill
@KNOWITALL Hamburger Hill! I hadn’t thought of that in years. What I remember most is that hill going from lush jungle to denuded mud hole over the course of the movie. Pretty powerful stuff there. Good call.
Nobody else like Apocalypse Now?
@KNOWITALL Hacksaw Ridge was pretty good but the love story was silly.
I haven’t watched a large number of war films but one that really impressed me enormously was Das Boot.
Ugh! How did I miss Apocalypse Now, though it is also an anti-war movie.
I think most war movies can be classified as anti-war movies.
@elbanditoroso The premise and some of the scenes were phenomenal though. It really left an impression, plus pacifism intrigues me.
