I just struggled through trying to watch the movie twice. It wasn’t bad. I just don’t like movies that are so full of CGI. I guess that was inevitable. I liked the cast.
Maybe I’m getting too old for Spielberg….
No, and I have no desire to.
It looks like shallow nostalgia bait, that even a Spielberg cannot salvage.
Ready Player One (the movie) isn’t really meant for cinemas, unless the go full Rocky Horror, and have the audience shout out cultural references onscreen, like “Robocop!” Or “Terminator!”
It’s really a party movie, for a similar purpose.
I loved the book, especially the audio book. I hated the movie—Spielberg completely missed the point of the book.
Thanks all, for the perspectives shared so far.
Like @Caravanfan and most of the reviewers on IMBb, the movie was a disappointment compared to the book. So many key items were left out of the movie, and some aspects were added to the movie where it would have been better to stay true to the original story.
Let’s face it. The book wasn’tbrilliant To begin with..It took a leaf out of so many existing, mainly USA-based, iconic references, and then put the Disney spin where there are only good and evil people, both the book and film miss creating a classic. In addition, this was a prime opportunity to use brilliant CGI. The movie missed the mark, in my book.
