Was the summit with Kim Jong-Un more successful than originally thought?

Asked by seawulf575 (17089points) July 28th, 2018

NK has started dismantling some of the bigger missile testing sites. They have also sent home the remains of our soldiers. These show some progress with NK. Does this change the original thoughts that President Trump did nothing with the summit?

No. There was no document. There is no verifiability. And we stopped military exercises with South Korea.

No. Just the opposite. NK has a history of playing the UN and my suspicions are that they’re playing now.

According to Pompeo, they are still creating nuclear fuel. The Singapore meeting provided good optics for North Korea, but does not seem to have altered their weapons program.

Maybe. Only time will tell. I think we’d be naive to trust someone like KJU, though.

I will credit Trump for facilitating recovery of the remains. The rest is too iffy for anything other than speculation.

Who knows whose bones those are.
My money is on some random North Koreans who died in a labor camp last thursday.

Successful for whom? Certainly not the U.S. or South Korea..

It was a roaring success for North Korea. A tin pot manchild dictator got to be on the same level as the President of the U.S., and played him like a fiddle.

True, Kim sent us coffins, but in exchange he was granted an audience with a sitting President, a thing unheard of and coveted by North Korea since the day the place was invented. Trump gave it away for next to nothing.

It was more successful for Kim Jong-un. It was nice for him to be shown such respect by the President of the United States. Kim runs the world’s most repressive and brutal regime and yet Trump was seen giving his tacit support to the horror.

And for what? There seems to be no agreement as to what Kim should do and when he should do it and there are no arrangements for inspections to ensure compliance.

Not to date.

The repatriation of soldiers remains is a good thing but it is just restarting something that was ongoing until Bush jr. adopted a hardline stance Blame Bush for North Korea’s Nukes.

What they are dismantling is still unclear, maybe just an outdated satellite launch center (?) some hotel/barracks, etc.

They are still stalling and avoiding meetings.

Their track record and reputation are not the best, but then again neither are Trumps, so let us continue to watch and learn.

So, did Trump accomplish anything? Who can tell, but to date, nothing of any significance and what did he agree to in return? We still don’t know that either.

@ragingloli Surely they will DNA test and confirm identity, if they were the bones of my family member I would definitely want the identity verified.
