What is that place you know by heart but never been to?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29220points) August 1st, 2018 from iPhone

An actual place or a metaphorical one. But one which through literature or from someone telling you about it, had led you to love and know it intimately.

A city like Paris or LA for example and the novel or novels which “brought” you there.

The Lake District in England.

I devoured the Swallows and Amazons books when I was a kid, pored over the maps, knew everything about it. I am the only one in my family of origin who hasn’t been there.

Venice and Okinawa, Japan.

I’ve read a ton of books, saw documentaries, pictures, etc…and I just adore all that water and fascinated with the rising water.

My uncle lives in Oki and decided to make his life there. Not just the beaches but the mystical bathing rituals and history are amazing.

^^ Okinawa where there’s a village of 90+ year olds living longer I think. A healthy way of life being active growing their own vegetables…probably zero internet too.

The River Yann as described by Lord Dunsany in his short fictional story “Idle Days on the Yann”.

I want to visit Africa once in my life to see beauty of nature and vast number of animal species living in harmony and ofcourse the Himalayas. That’s another place that I would like to go see.

@mazingerz88 I’m actually a minimalist and a natural hermit, none of that would bother me in the slightest, sounds blissful. :)

@Caravanfan Don’t we just love Middle-Earth. Can’t wait to go trekking there and have breakfasts, first, second and third.
