Why am I so dang hungry?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47127points) August 5th, 2018

We went primitive camping for 3 days, Wed, Thurs, came back on Friday. Got plenty to eat but ever since I’ve been home I have been really, really hungry and I don’t know why….it’s like I’m missing some ingredient, maybe some vitamin, but I have no idea what it could be. I really had a craving for KFC coleslaw, but we don’t have a KFC around here any more.

Maybe you have a tapeworm or caught something while camping. Try drinking clean water. Some times thirst masks itself as hunger.

Dutchess_III's avatar

You mean dirty water won’t hydrate me?!

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@Dutchess_III Sure knock your self out.

Dutchess_III's avatar

(Well, you specified for me to drink “clean” water so…..)

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Clean water is always better than dirty. I just add that disclaimer to my American friends. Just in case they have tap water that makes the news for being contaminated.

Dutchess_III's avatar

All I drink is tap water!

My Dad’s wife visited from Florida. She kept saying how good my water is! She filled up a container so she could take it places with her! It was odd. I don’t think my water is any better, or any worse than any other water, except Flint’s.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@Dutchess_III Yes it is Flint where I got that impression of USA water and north Dakota where I tried the water. Good to know that it was an exception to the rule , and not common. Do you feel better from having a glass of water?

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’ve been drinking water and no. I’m still hungry.

No Egg McMuffins?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@Dutchess_III Well then your going to have to eat something substantial. I’m making beef ribs in my oven. If you can make it to Red Deer in the next two hours I will share with you.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Nope. No Egg McMuffin. I did have a BLT this morning, using one of my home grown tomatoes. My tomatoes aren’t nearly as good as store bought tomatoes.

I just ate 2 scrambled eggs on top of the BLT from this morning. I should be full, but I’m not.

Clean, outdoor air did it.
Being around constant pollutants and other manufactured smells will inhibit olfactory, and as a team, also taste experiences. You got away from that, and lack of overburdened senses gave you cravings.

I feel like I said that badly.

You’re pregnant! Congratulations

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@stanleybmanly I thought that too, but was too prudent to say it.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Actually, guys, if I was pregnant food would be the last thing I’d want. I’d just throw it all up.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@Dutchess_III Do you have urges for pickles and yogurt?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Nope. I only got cravings for McDonald’s cheese burgers.

At the end of the day it’s all about how much calorie you put in to your body prior to feeling the hunger, in respect to your daily calorie requirement. Eating sugary food and food that require lots of chewing will fool your body in to thinking that it has acquired enough sustenance. I won’t encourage people to eat fast food as it’s generally junk food but I understand that once in a while junkies in moderation won’t be too detrimental to one’s health.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t know what the deal is. I don’t eat much sugary food. I’m really not eating any differently than before, I just feel hungry. I have to kind of work on not giving in or I’m sure I’ll end up over eating.
AND I AM NOT PREGNANT!!!

Urban Princess here, but I’m guessing that “primitive camping” means walking long distances, carrying heavy gear and supplies, gathering firewood, and other grueling tasks.

You might simply be tired from all that physical activity and burning so many calories. My own body sends out hunger signals when it’s been taxed and needs replenishment.

Of course, that sort of fatigue is the best kind.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I vote preggers.
“I went roughing it in the woods. Now I am hungry all the time. Could doing it like wolves just once under the moon with no protection make me preggers?”

Lol

Dutchess_III's avatar

Getting knocked up did not cause me to feel any more hungry than I did otherwise! It didn’t change my appetite at all, except maybe to throw up kind of a lot.
I am not pregnant and certainly not with a wolf cub! Besides. We only have coyotes here, not wolves.

MooCows's avatar

Been eating too much sugar. You need to fast for at least 3 days and you will get rid of your sugar addiction and be more clear headed. Check into it.

Patty_Melt's avatar

It says like wolves, not with wolves.
Lol

Dutchess_III's avatar

No, I have not been eating too much sugar! But fasting for a few days might not be such a bad idea.

Maybe you ate a more acidic diet than normal. When your stomach acid is increased, it makes you feel hungry. (That’s why Mexican restaurants have specials on Margaritas. After that acidic drink, you’re more likely to order food/spend more.)
Many people have a different diet, while camping, than they normally would. People who don’t drink much, may have beers/booze whilst camping.

It’s also possible that you sweated a lot, or were swimming, or something you don’t do often, and you expended lots of calories.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Whatever imbalance was, it seems to be resolving itself now. And I agree with McGrimm….I think I was just on a different kind of diet while I was camping and my body said, “Hold on here!”
Anyway, speaking of Mexican food, I got the most DELICIOUS vegetarian burrito yesterday (no I am not a vegetarian!) and it was HUGE. Way too much for me to eat all at once.
It’s 10:30 am the next day, and I’m a regular kind of hungry, having not eaten this morning yet, and I’m just hanging out, waiting to get hungry enough to eat the rest of the burrito. I’ve never really looked forward to anything quite like that. It must have been just what I needed.

BTW, sono technician said it looks like Jellyfish. Now I’m kinda worried.

Could be Tapeworm

Dutchess_III's avatar

I think tapeworm would take several weeks to manifest itself. Plus I haven’t eaten any raw meats so I don’t think so.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

I’m just so excited about Val’s baby. Her grandchildren will have so much fun playing with this newest family member.

Dutchess_III's avatar

LOLL!! Jellyfish sting, though. I’ll have to warn them.
