Last longer cost less to operate !

I have not seen the “last longer” They seem to die at about the same rate as incandescents and at 8X the initial investment and about that in power savings it’s still more economical not to go LED until they are manufactured to higher standards at more affordable prices. You can get a room bright as shit though so I still use LED lights.

The led bulbs I use certainly last longer. I first started changing out my bulbs three years ago. So far all my leds are still in use.
They have me feeling confident enough to pay the cost of a couple bulbs with battery back up. So far I haven’t had a power outage which would prove whether they will come on automatically, but they do come with a hook fixture socket that when the bulb is screwed in it automatically goes to battery, so I can carry the bulb around like a flashlight. They charge from normal use in a standard light socket.
I am simply loving leds. I love that they don’t get hot enough to cause burns or fires, making many aspects of life safer.
I love that they are encased in plastic, a lesser chance of shatter.
I love that they work well from battery power. I have strings of colored led lights to make my wheelchair visible after dark.
I have lights in my shoes.
I have nightlights which turn on and off automatically.

My health condition leaves me vulnerable to falls, so having lights I can depend on is comforting.

All the lights in my house are LED currently. I’ve had mixed results. Most of them are fine and haven’t caused any problems. But I’ve had varying issues with different brands. One died after only about a year of regular use, which is no better than an incandescent. I could accept that as a fluke, but shortly after that, another one of a completely different brand died as well; it had not been there for more than a year and a half, I’m certain. Additionally, one in the living room (of a third brand) flickers occasionally, though it has been doing that for over a year and still hasn’t failed outright. While the bulb part of an LED doesn’t get as hot as an incandescent, the plastic base that the bulb part sits in gets extremely hot. And this I’ve noticed across brands.

So they’re not perfect. But so far I do prefer them overall to incandescents and fluorescents and I can only hope the technology will continue to improve.

I buy mine from China. There is no portion on mine which gets too hot to hold.

I have one called a corncob which I use over my stove. It is really cool.

My experience with LEDs is the same as with CFLs 15 or 20 years ago. When they became a commodity item at the big box stores, priced nearly the same as older styles, the technology was mature enough that they worked just as well while running cooler and using less power.

The only downside is they were selling a lot of harsh blue cooler-colored lights. In both cases I had to be sure to buy warm-colored bulbs.

That’s part of the energy saving features is that it generates much less heat. You get more light for the energy consumed. I buy mine at IKEA. My power costs have just skyrocketed, so I’m going ‘super efficient’ this winter. If you have LEDs that are burning out too fast just remember how they work.

LED bulbs have many components inside to change the high voltage electricity from your home or building to the lower voltage that the LED chips need to run. Because of this, they are much more sensitive to heat than incandescent or halogen sources. You will frequently find that many low cost LED bulbs carry a warning that they should not be placed in fully enclosed fixtures. The reason for this is that this heat build up can shorten the life of the components inside of the LED bulb. Only use fully enclosed rated LED bulbs in fixtures of this type or you may void the warranty. You could be using the wrong LED bulb for the job or you may want to replace the fixture.

They provide a more dispersed, mood-enhancing ambient light that is a definite plus in homemade porn movies. The older halogen downlights gave a harsh, direct beam that often highlighted the body imperfections, such as shaving bumps and cellulose, on the participants.
