Taking Omega 3 capsules, why 3 times a day?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33577points) August 16th, 2018

I was reading the dosage label on by jar of Omega 3 pills this morning. It said to take the pills at various times during the day, as opposed to all at once.

Why is that? Does the Omega 3 effect only last for a couple hours? Why not take them all at once?

SInce the overall science shows that Omega 3 has no real effect on treating cardiovascular disease or depression, it may be just a way to prevent your body from reacting to higher dosages resulting from taking your day’s supplement all at once.

Omega 3 in large doses, especially from fish oil, can cause bloating, burping, bad breath, and other small inconveninces such as loose stools.

I just bought some as a home remedy for joint pain from osteoarthritis.
I’m only taking one 1000mg pill after breakfast.
So far I see no effect.

I see dramatic effects from cod liver oil with vitamin D added.
Fish oil pills nada.

My eye doctor recommended that I take three a day to help with eye health. I can’t tell any difference. He did recommend that I take them before bed as they could cause burping and bad breath. I guess he thought it wouldn’t matter if I was asleep.

Too much can also cause problems with your blood clotting. I don’t take it. They tell you to take it three times a do so they can sell more.

If you’re burping it up and it tastes fishy then it has gone rancid and is likely causing you harm. My vitamin D levels stay in the healthy range and my HDL gets a serious boost from the form I take. I also notice my joints feel perfectly fine, which is not the usual case. So a study confirms what many knew already, that many of the cheap pill forms are ineffective at best and dangerous at worst. That does not mean that an intake of fresh, high quality omega3 rich oil is not beneficial, it clearly has been for me when my labs come back with better numbers and it’s the only difference I have made.
