Who is your favorite fictional character?

Asked by seawulf575 (17137points) August 24th, 2018

I have read a lot of fictional stories and love how some of the characters come across. I think my favorite is Jubal Harshaw from Stranger in a Strange Land. Do you have a favorite?

It mostly depends on what I’m reading at the time. Last week it was Emilio Sandoz (The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell) and this week it’s Philippa Talbot (In This House of Brede by Rumer Godden).

I’m very fickle.

Thanos is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills half of the poeple, and doesn’t afraid of anything.

Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

^^^ Lordy, it’s been decades since I read those! Thanks for the reminder of their existence, @rojo. :-)

Sooo tempting to say Donald Trump.

But, like @canidmajor, I tend to love the one I’m with. My list of favorites would run into the hundreds.

I don’t consider that fickleness, though. I consider it an appreciation of the good work of an author.

However, I do have a special fondness for Bill the Lizard (“There goes Bill!”).

@rojo…I will have to go back and re-read the Unbeliever series. Thomas always hit me as a very whiny sort…very much an anti-hero. But I did like the series. I thought they were very imaginative.

Leah Price from The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Never have I related to a character so much in my life. I thought it was a brilliant story as well.

OMG The Poisonwood Bible….incredible book. I don’t know what happened to my copy. Got to get it back in my collection though.

Sherlock Holmes, especially the current two incarnations, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jonny Lee Miller.

@Kardamom. And what an abomination Robert Downey Jr is in that role. Usually he is so good…

@filmfan. I really enjoyed both Robert Downey Jr., and Jude law in their adaptations of Holmes and Watson.

My favorite written character is Jane Eyre, but my favorite character based on likability is Sherlock Holmes
