I can use my mac to text iPhones via iMessage. My question is can I use my computer to text other cell phones?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23410points) August 24th, 2018

And how do you do that?
I quite dislike texting, but one friend, a few coworkers, plus nieces, and nephews love it.
If can do it from my computer I can deal with it, I have heard it can be done I just don’t know how.

Well, I don’t know, but I can do it. With my computer, I can sign onto my phone company’s website using my phone number and use its text function to send a message to someone’s cellphone. If I hadn’t stumbled onto that accidentally, I wouldn’t have known about it.

I can also send a text message from my phone to someone’s e-mail—usually my own, because this is how I send myself reminders. So your contacts could probably do the same with you.

I used to text my boss via my computer all the time. I think it depends on the cell company. Check out directions on WikiHow for better details.

Give it a try. Text a friend with an Android phone.

I use Android. All my friends have iPhones. There was a big change last year where I got included in their group chats. Before that, I would see a weird sporadic view of the threaded conversations where I only saw direct replies to me.

That was with iPhones. I don’t think anyone I know has caught on to iMessage from the desktop.

You can from iMessages but you need to have a iPhone to set up forwarding.

I just tested it and it works.

My aunt used to do it from her Samsung iPad like device to me. I think my sister downloaded an app to do it.

Also, my iPhone texting includes some sort of email also. The accounts are merged and it comes to my text. Some sort of set up in my iPhone I think. I don’t know how it works, but if you have an Apple computer you can call Apple help line and ask them.

Lastly, you could message on Facebook Messenger if they have that instead of old fashioned texting to a phone number. Facebook messaging you can do on any computer and you don’t have to die lias the Messenger app to do it if you don’t want to.

Yes you can. You just have to get the person’s full phone “address.” For example, here is mine: fake phone number>>> 0001112222@mms.uscc.net. When you send an email to that address it comes through their phone as a text.
One way to get the address is to have them send a picture, or something, from their phone, to your email address.
