I bet a lot of people are working free labor at times by adding it to there job description.
Volunteering is free labor. Asking an employee to help off hours is free labor and so on.
If zero wages then one is a slave.

Sure. There are volunteer opportunities that pay nothing and require expensive travel, accommodations, and food. That’s a negative financial result.

Well, if you pay a person commission AND charge them for certain things (room and board for example) their wages can come out in the negatives.

I worked for a company where I enjoyed the job & adored my boss. At some point the company was about to go under & when my boss came to me to tell me that he could no longer afford to pay me to do my job & said he should be able to turn things around before the first of the next year & would call me back in to work, I volunteered to work for FREE until he could get things turned around. At the end of each month, he always said…things are looking better…so I kept on working for FREE. He threw a HUGE Christmas party for his former workers & many of his friends. He was giving a speech thanking everybody for believing in him & thanking those who had stood behind him & believed in him when everybody else turned their back on him. At that point, he said “I especially want to thank Marissa for trying to help me turn everything around although I’ll NEVER be able to pay her for all her hard work.” That’s having a wage of less than $0.00!!!

My son was working for minimum wage in a fast food drive through. The boss told him there was $20 missing from the cash register and he would have to make it up. The second time this happened, he quit.
