Which graduating class will celebrate the 100th year anniversary?
If a high school was established in 1922 would the graduating class of 2022 or 2023 celebrate the Centennial?

Depends on what they’re marking. Opening of the school? First graduating class?
If the first school year was 1922–1923, then the class of ‘23 would mark the 100th anniversary of the first graduating class.
If this were my problem to solve, I would ask what the actual date of founding was, not just the year, and then observe it in whichever school year it happens to fall in.
Or both classes could celebrate. Why not? They could also celebrate the 94th (or 95th) right now.
This is the school- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madison_East_High_School
I’m curious because our son is starting as a freshman this year. He graduates in 2022. There are some notable alumni. I thought it would be neat if he graduates the year the school celebrates the centennial. My curiosity is helping me through a stressful time.
That would be an honour for your son to graduate from it!! Interestingly most of the notable alumni are players. Is your son interested in any kind of sport? Also I could see “Rival” school name on the wiki page. Is that a common thing in USA schools/colleges? There can be many but you don’t declare in on wiki as far as I am aware..)
He’s into theater. He thought it was cool that Bradley Whitford (Get Out, Cabin in the Woods) is an alumni.
Rival schools are common here. It makes game day very interesting. :)
It would be interesting to see if parents and children have graduated/graduating from rival schools:)
If the first class was 1922–1923, the hundredth graduating class would be 2021–2022. People don’t usually think in those terms. They like to have the numbers match, so the centennial would most likely be celebrated 2022–2023, which is actually the 101st graduating class.
IMHO, it should be the class of ‘23.
The concept of rival schools seems to be a common thing in the Midwest. My older brother (r.i.p.) and his wife were from rival schools.
Tonight was the homecoming game. They lost to their rival school. It was pouring rain tonight. It had to hurt.
