Charger Light on HP laptop not working?

My laptop went down 7% charge today. Unfortunately I was not able to charge it due to power failure. But when I plugged the charger into its port there was no sign of charging in laptop, No lights showing. when I hit power button on laptop, the charging led blinks 6–8 times and stops. I don’t know what to do. Let me know the reason if anyone knows it. Thank you.
