Happy New Year! I was just thinking about looking up a recipe for apple and honey cookies. Something to bring to my zumba class on Thursday.

KNOWITALL's avatar

So whats the traditions for this? In laymans terms.

Caravanfan's avatar

@KNOWITALL
Blow a rams horn. Eat apples and honey. Go to synagogue (although I don’t anymore). Eat apple cake. Wish everybody happy new year.

Shana Tovah to you too!

I will be celebrating the New Year with a new barn. (One the old one is all cleaned out and demolished.)

Allow me to share a link to the sermon given at a Rosh hashanah service in Albuquerque New Mexico yesterday. Note that I am not a member but I found his sentiments very interesting.

Rabbi R, makes the point that we (all religions) are god-intoxicated, (among other things), and that perspective and humility would be far better for all of us in the long run.\

It’s a good read.

@elbanditoroso Great, article, thanks.

Will going to the bar and eating pretzels work @Caravanfan?

LuckyGuy's avatar

@elbanditoroso That is a veryinteresting article – from a Rabbi!
“The more we walk with God, the less room we have to be aware of the human condition in general, and consequently, our moral sensibilities become attenuated. ”

Dutchess_III's avatar

Wait..we need to be aware of the human condition.

@LuckyGuy Your barn has me thinking that I always associate the new year with the harvest! Maybe there is some sort of Mitzvah in there that we don’t realize yet. Some sort of silver lining with the bad luck you had with the barn.

@LuckyGuy – he used to be a rabbi in the Buffalo NY area – your neck of the woods.
