If you've moved recently, care to share your experiences?

Why did you move? Was it from one state to another or one country to another? What do you like about the new place? What do you miss about the old place, if anything?
I’m contemplating a cross country move possibly in the future and want to learn of others’ experiences.

Within the last 2 years I moved from a furnished rental to my own house in the same city. We moved because my husband couldn’t take it anymore. He wanted his “own” place and his things.
I’ve moved a lot, both within the state I live in now, and many states away. Almost always it is related to a new job for my husband.
Moving is always much harder then my husband anticipates, some sort of selective amnesia. It is hardest on me though. Or, maybe I should say harder for me. Big spending is extremely hard for me. Big spending as in buying a house. The decision is very stressful. My husband and I put a lot of emphasis on our house, and have crazy wants and needs like lots of garages, and it’s overwhelming. It would be much easier without his car hobby. Also, at a lower price point I’m not very fussy about the house being perfect, it’s a relief honestly, but as we get up into high prices I get more picky I guess wanting value for my money, and just simply more what I want.
I miss something from almost everywhere I have lived. Not so much this last move from the rental, but I miss the water all around in the Tampa Bay Area, I miss our friends and my property in Tennessee, I miss friends and the atmosphere in Boca, there is always something.
Are you moving to be near family? Will there be a lot of socializing opportunities for you? For me, having zumba classes and other things I like to do helps a ton. Where I live now there are hundreds of clubs and activities throughout the day that are included in or $145 monthly maintenance fee, which also covers all the amenities here. Most people are retired, so they are relaxed, friendly, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable, and interesting.
Are you sure you don’t want to visit where I live? Lol. My best girlfriend down here is a Jersey girl.
Moving is just something I contemplate from time to time and yes, it would be to be closer to my family. But I am not planning on it for several more years, if ever.
@janbb Can you split you year? Get out of Jersey winters? Kind of as a test.
@JLeslie This wasn’t meant to be a discussion of my decision but yes, that is what I am doing.
I moved last month, after almost eleven years in my old place. I moved about fifty feet, from Apt 1 to Apt 2.
My old unit had not been painted in years, needed new refrigerator and new carpet/flooring, and was really dated. The new apartemnt has all new appliances, new flooring, and redone bathrooms.
The problem is, moving even that close, is getting rid of all the old crap that accumulates. I took an enormous amount of stuff to the dump, donated a lot of old clothes, books, and CDs, put three different bookcases out on the sidewalk for people to take for free.
So one big part of moving is letting go of a lot of baggage.
