How do you feel about Stephen Colbert's beard?

Asked by janbb (63219points) September 16th, 2018

Trigger warning: This is a fluff question.

Lately, it seems that Colbert is sporting a white beard but he still has what now appears to be obviously dyed black head hair. Do you like that look or should one or the other go? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think its greatest utility is in letting us know whether a YouTube video of him is old or new.

I don’t watch regular TV, so that’s the only way I ever see him. Before Trump, I didn’t watch much of the TV satire gang, but now it’s generally rather gratifying. Took me a while to realize that some people upload very old shows and try to pass them off as new. But Colbert’s developing beard is a great tell.

Some people do have different-colored whiskers and head hair. My son is blond, but his beard is almost black.

True as is the content sometimes. I mainly see clips on Facebook; don’t watch the show either.

Non-issue. I could care less. (Spoken by by a person who has kept a beard for 40 years).

It always bothers be when men dye their hair black to look young. It’s silly. THey should embrace the face that they are aging.

I have a WHITE beard is this an issue ??? ;>0

@Tropical_Willie There was a Trigger Warning that this is a fluff question. :-) Anyway, the problem is not the white beard but it’s combination with the dyed black hair.

Beards usually go gray before head hair, right?

My father’s beard was very white before his hair went white. I don’t think he’s vain enough to dye his hair. As for the face hair: I don’t care for it. When I first saw it I thought something was wrong in the video focus. I only watch him online as well, so at least I’ll be able to see at a glance is something is pre or post season 4.

Alex Trebek is now sporting the best looking beard I’ve ever seen on television. As for Colbert, I don’t know what to make of the contrasting colors. I suppose I’m indifferent. For a while Letterman floored me with his “hermit from a cave” look.

I just saw a photo and I think there is a good chance his hair still has a lot of black, and maybe he will stop dying now. I saw a photo and if you look closely his black hair has grey at the temples and some strands throughout. My husband is 3 years younger and his hair is still black with very few strands of grey, maybe 8–10 of them.

Going grey on the body before the top of the head, including facial hair, is very common.

I typically like clean shaven, but his beard is fine, same with Trebek. When there is a beard I prefer it to be fairly short, although longer than that permanent 5 o’clock shadow look.

Since his wife doesn’t like it, it will go soon.

I used to work for a guy who had dark brown hair but his beard was red. It drove his beautician wife crazy so she died it to match his head. I thought he looked ridiculous with a beard so I suggested he just shave it all off to solve the problem. Of course, his wife won!!!

Colbert claims that his beard turned white years ago & that he’s just lucky that his head didn’t get the memo…

Colbert’s beard creeps me out but I think it would be the same reaction even if it was the same color as his head!!! I don’t think he looks good in a beard no matter the color!!! It tends to negate his impish little grin. : (

I usually like beards on guys and it’s certainly possible that he’s not dying his head but I do find them an odd look on him.

Science demands that if you make such a claim, you need to provide proof. Can the people saying he dyes his hair prove it? Please back up your claim.

Wasn’t referring to you, @janbb relax.

Gosh, apparently it is Science Chick that demands corroboration. Science hasn’t said a word about it. :-p

Pssst… @ScienceChick, this is a fluff question in Social.

Everyone is thinking I was taking a serious tone, but I wasn’t. We need emojis and I have to remember to use them.

I don’t think that it would matter IF his beard was the same color as his hair because a beard makes him look evil & that’s the opposite of his persona!!! They were teasing him on the show about trying to look like David Letterman. I think he was trying to go more for the Jon Stewart look. Either way, it just does NOT work for him!!! I’ll feel more comfortable after he shaves it off & I’m just as sure he doesn’t care what I think because HE likes it!!!

@ScienceChick On Fluther, you can use a ~ to denote sarcasm.

^^ Or even a :) or D for humor. Crude but sometimes useful.
