How to sleep with out my arms and legs going numb?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24983points) September 23rd, 2018

Should I buy more premium pillows? Or is there another solution? Do you have the same problems sleeping? Loosing weight is an option.

Previous question Can you recommend a good pillow?

I find that when this happens, I have usually fallen asleep with my arm or leg in an awkward position that cuts off circulation. Most of the time it is when I am on my stomach and have an arm cocked under me or on my back with the arm stretched out over and around my head. You might try to be more aware of how you fall asleep.

Try a flatter pillow that doesn’t put your neck at such a 90 degree-ish angle. I mean an angle that keeps your spine straight.

@kritiper Where online do you recommend buying a flatter pillow. Like from Amazon and Bed Bath and Beyond.

My right arms used to fall asleep during the night every night. Then, IF I rolled onto my left side, my right arm would still fall asleep. I finally decided that maybe I should sleep on my back. I chose quite by a random thought process that I should buy a travel pillow to help support my neck. I lucked out & found a decent one on Amazon & ordered it. It did support my neck & my arm magically STOPPED going to sleep. The one thing I can tell you for sure is that this pillow is fairly sturdy & you DON’T want to buy a cheap one because it won’t provide the appropriate support!!! I’ve not had that problem with my legs so not sure what you might need there. Have you considered consulting a Chiropractor??? IF your problem has anything to do with a pinched nerve, a Chiropractor might be able to give you relief!!!

I suffer from your problem.

I found that if I have the pillow at just the right hight then my arm doesn’t go numb as much.

When the pillow is the right hight it takes some of the pressure off my arm when I sleep on my side,

What I do is try different things to get just the right hight. I often use one regular size and a tiny pillow on top or sometimes folding a pillow in half works or using two small pillows.

If I don’t get the right pillow hight then I know right away and make adjustments. If I’m at a hotel and can’t get the pillow(s) just right then I resort to sleeping on my back with my head and back slightly elevated.

Good health!

I have to make sure the below is below my neck and head, and not my shoulder, and I need to sleep on my left. If I fall asleep on my right I have all sorts of problems. I do ok if I sleep on my back too, but I’m more comfortable on my side.

If the pillow is too flat I have problems. I use two not very puffy pillows, so I can adjust them as needed.

Are you still sleeping in the bathtub?

Did you try my suggestion the last time you asked this?

Sleep on your side, head on the center of the pillow, legs bent at the knee and not on top of each other. Keep your arm that is closest to the mattress crooked at the elbow with hand half tucked under edge of pillow. Other armreaching slightly forward, hand on the mattress slightly below elbo of other arm.

None of your limbs should be on top of or under any other limb.

I ordered two chiliows from Amazon for $68. Will tell how it works. Will get on Oct 1 -2nd.

I hope that they work well for you!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

@RedDeerGuy1 You might be better off to just go to a store and check out pillows. If you try to order one on-line you may not get what you need.

@kritiper The lady from Amazon chat told me not to buy chilow… Will consider a Purple pillow for $169 later. will wait for the commercial again. The Canadian link doesn’t take credit cards only paypal.

@all I found a chilow for $9.19 free shipping from Amazon. Will get it from October 17 – November 7. Will keep Fluther posted.

@RedDeerGuy1 Before you jump in to buy the purple pillow, you might want to watch this video This guy does pretty good reviews on most of the Made for TV stuff & he usually does followups. I think he did several followups on the purple pillow. The newer versions of the purple pillow don’t come with the inserts that he shows in the video. I think that now you only receive the pillow with the case. I’ve been tempted, but I just can’t justify in my mind paying $169 for a pillow!!! You also need to take into consideration that your arm falls asleep at night & a $169 pillow might not be the perfect answer to address that problem!!!

I do hope you enjoy the pillows that you just ordered!!!

@LadyMarissa Wow thanks for the warning. Plastic smell. You saved me $169.
